I can't remember if I took shire brand adderall xr 20mg or barr adderall xr 20mg a month ago, but currently I am taking shire 20mg adderall xr and it is doing wonders, but I am just curious if there was any discrepancy between shire and barr and which one is the best adderall manufacturer.

Barr actually makes the generic and brand version of Adderall IR (they bought brand rights from Shire). Starting next year Barr will be producing a generic version of Adderall XR.

Between the generic IR from Barr and the brand name, (apperantly made by Barr as well), which one is better? I'm taking the generic one now and i'm just wondering if the brand name is better or any different. thanx

Yah, I've been wondering about this for a long time. Is the 'brand' barr coverable under insurance or is it officially listed as the 'brand' manufacturer now? If not, how can you differentiate on your script whether or not you want barr 'brand' or barr generic?

When I took name brand IR and Barr brand IR, I could only tell a few differences, but not enough to justify the price difference. Now compared to some other generic brands, there are significant differences to justify spending the extra money. I guess it all depends on how they work for you.

I'm confused by this post...Barr is a generic company that bought the rights to produce Adderall IR once its patent expired...it is still considered a generic, and should still be available for the generic cost. That is why Shire started making Vyvanse IR...

Actually, Barr still makes both. IF you buy the brand version, it is a different shape and color with the AD logo on it. If you buy the generic, it has Barr's logo. My guess is that they are still using their formula for the generic, and Adderall's formula for the 'brand'-- I had the choice at my pharmacy and decided to try the generic version first, hoping that since they made both now there wouldn't be much difference. I started today. If it works okay it will save me about $70 a month since I don't have insurance.

Hi hannahsmom-- I'm wondering how you have found the generic Barr, if you have compared with Barr Brand Name. Some people feel as though the Barr Brand now isn't as good as it was when Shire was making it, so I too am wondering if I'd be just as well off buying the Barr generic. Thanks for your input.

I've tried both. There is a difference between them although nothing earth shattering. Is it worth a huge price difference?......No, not in my opinion.

Thanks for responding so quickly JR1973. When you say there's a difference, do you feel the "brand" is better, if only minimally? It's funny-- I spoke to my insurance company-- the brand name Barr costs the insurance company less than my copay, so I pay just the cost - $35 rather than copay for "brand" Barr Adderall, whereas if I get generic Barr, it costs my insurance company $40, and I pay $5. Basically, the generic and brand by Barr cost the same, just depends if I want to pay the $35 or have it taken out of my annual prescription maximum. That's why I started wondering if they are in effect almost the same thing.
