View Full Version : Addicted to Stimulants & Energy Supplements
NickL30 06-02-08, 08:50 PM I have been taking this energy supplement which contains large amounts of caffeine & cocomaine similar to ephedrine.
It is called Venom Hyperdrive. Not only that but I take with energy drinks. I probably take in close to 1000MG of caffeine per day.

It really gives you a rush of energy but there is a hard crash afterward. The thing is that it seems to function like ADHD meds like Adderall. I am not taking Vyanase of Prozac while taking these because I am scared that it may be too much.
I have also noticed greater mood swings especially the irritable & agressive type.
What happens if I goto the doctor and I have an irregular heart rythm?? Is it reversible?? I don't get dizzy or anything like that.
garykelly 06-02-08, 09:39 PM Whoa there Nelly! Slow down on the energy products. I have bouts with fatigue but that's ridiculous. First, I'd have to ask you why you are taking so many things for energy? What's the underlying problem? The human body wasn't designed to be regularly fatigued...nor constantly "up".
In answer to your last questions (and I'm no doctor), there are a number of things that can cause arrhythmias (irregular heart beats), some of your energy products (especially in that quanitity) included. Though troubling, they aren't often life threatening, however it is a sign of something that needs attention for without it, it can exacerbate into something worse. Be careful with that stuff.
NickL30 06-03-08, 10:40 AM Its hard for me to focus at work. I feel like I am always stressed out and never have enough time. Everything is done with hysteria and I feel like I am always a minute or 1 mistake away from getting fired from my job.
I do manage to hit the gym 6 days a week but usually it is at night after work, after eating dinner etc..
Who knows if I accidently overdose, maybe I can take some time off for short term disability.

This is assuming overdosing wont kill you. (Overdosing is no joke to me. its not something I think one should aim for)
In my opinion, you should talk with your doctor. Call him/her up and make an apppt. Tell him what you are taking, how much you are taking and why. I am sure there is a medication he can prescribe for you that will not have the negative effects that much caffeine can have on your body.
Just be aware that if you decide to cut back or eliminate caffeine to have lots of aspirin with you.
Please seek medical advice and stop trying to solve your concentration problems with caffeine. Your body will either go into major crash mode or you will build up a tolerance and you will need even more caffeine to get the effect you are getting now.
This may have come off as a little harsh, but know that I am concerned for you and hope that you can get the help you need to function well in life.

Why waste time stressing about not having enough time? It seems counter productive. Plan your days/weeks. Prioritize. Then things may open up.
As for your heart rate. Try lots of deep breathing exercises.
SuzzanneX 06-14-08, 03:29 AM oh man, I took my share of gas station pills.
.....before i knew i was ADHD.
there are drugs out there that can benifit you and the quality of your life.
....and there are drugs that are cheap and taudry, and make you jitters the cawfee hound.....and recreational drugs, to completely destroy your mind.
...all three will kill you if you take too much.
or, you could just take what you were prescribed,
................and start will half the dose if you think it's too much.

Yea with this combo I bet you are - just reading the ingredient of this hyperdrive made me nauseated
If this mystery herbal supplement is causing you to crash badly and be irritable why use it ????? I tend to get addicted to stuff that makes me feel better - not worse
Perhaps I am not normal . . .
Cocoamine™ contains several natural occurring substrates, including methylxanthines (theobromine, caffeine, and theophylline),
methylxanthines (theobromine = diuretic, caffeine = stimulant , and theophylline= bronco dilator ), all have central stimulant effect!!!!
biogenic-amines (phenylethylamine, tyramine, octopamine and synephrines),
Ischemic Stroke Associated With Use of an Synephrine (http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/inside.asp?AID=881&UID=)
The quote above is misleading as tyramine is 4-hydroxy-phenethylamine,
tyramine is degraded to octopamine, which is subsequently packaged in synaptic vesicles with norepinephrine(noradrenaline). Therefore, after repeated tyramine exposure, these vesicles contain an increased amount of octopamine and a relatively reduced amount of norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
some basic infoPhenethylamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenethylamine)
amino acids (phenylalanine, tryptophan, tyrosine, others), minerals (with a high content of magnesium) and several beneficial antioxidants.
phenylalanine - isn't that aspartame????
tyrosine comes from phenylalanine
and others ?????
Phenylalanine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylalanine) uses the same active transport channel as tryptophan to cross the blood-brain barrier, and, in large quantities, interferes with the production of serotonin.{Emd Quote}
= I am curious as to why these are presented as separate ingredient when they really aren't - not much of a sign of honesty going on here {IMHO}
garykelly 06-16-08, 08:03 PM Nick, I hear ya. I've had a horrible time focusing as of late. And it seems that you have to work twice as hard as others to get half as much done. Keep in mind that, in what you're feeling, there is often a huge difference between our perception and the reality. You may feel like your one minute or one mistake from getting fired, but in reality, unless your boss has said something to you, you're probably very consciensious (I know it's misspelled) and have extremely high expectations of yourself. You are probably taking note of every single error you do. I don't think others notice it as much as we do ourselves. After all, as I like to say, I am the perceptual center of the universe.
I used to go to the gym 6 days a week as well. Instead of pushing yourself all the time, try giving yourself permission to do something you enjoy for an evening (escape activities are not good enough, you have to give yourself the permission to do it) instead of pushing yourself at the gym.
Give yourself a little break. If you ODed on all that, you'd be giving yourself permission to relax. Do it without the ODing.
You're OK. Don't sweat things so much. Are the things you're fretting over going to be critical 10 years from now? Just change your perspective and your perceptions of work and life may very well change too.
Good luck...and lay off the energy stuff some.
Maurice 06-16-08, 08:24 PM Nicl30, You have got to be kidding. Or are you really trying to find out if it is possible to kill yourself by the equivelent of 1000mg. of caffeine? Just imagining that much, turns my stomach into knots. For real man, you are playing with fire. Not to mention your life. Don't you realize that a lot if not the majority of people that OD die?
Batman55 06-23-08, 06:53 AM 300mgs of caffeine per day has been reported to be safe... it also depends on the OPs tolerance... some people drink 10 cups of coffee a day without a problem... not all at once, mind you, but for the most part... a caffeine overdose will leave you with a panic attack and other unpleasant effects... death is highly unlikely except in EXTREME cases (like those few times a dumb college student had a whole pack of caffeine pills...) Now if you're having caffeine with ephedrine, that's territory you should NOT play with... and I would worry about the synephrine, too.
If you want to have a caffeine habit, drink coffee or tea.
I don't see what's wrong with medicating ADD with caffeine... unless it causes you excessive anxiety. Other than that it's generally proven to increase focus and concentration.
dizzysmurf03 02-02-09, 09:41 AM This is my first post here, I'll try to remember to post in the new member section after this.
I've been addicted to energy pills and drinks for a long time. I've gotten a bit of a grip on them lately, and have started to back off and find other ways to keep myself alert during the day.
1000mg is quite a lot, and high doses like that are not something you want to do on a regular basis. (I know because there's been times I would take in 800 to 1000mg every day all week, then crash for two days and try to sleep it off, just to start over again when I went back to work.)
My body has built up a pretty heavy duty tolerance to caffeine over the years, and I'll never forget one day in particular when I went waaaay over what I could handle. I was working overnight retail, and it was near the holidays so we were swamped with work. So, I decided it would be great to bring two packs of Red Bull to work, along with a packet of Yellow Jacket energy pills.
Ok, I just remembered I had to take out the trash, and had to re-read the entire thread to get my train of thought back... lol
Anyhow, I started by drinking two of the Red bulls before my shift started, i was feeling good, so I drank another before my first break. I was moving even faster and started sweating. I was still feeling good, so I drank a forth (that's a full 4 pack gone within 2 hours) and I took a Yellow Jacket.
At this point I was REALLY zooming! Soe of my co-workers were amazed at my level of clarity while I worked, and just baffled by how I was working so fast. So naturally I drank two more Red Bulls and took another Yellow Jacket on my lunch break...
At this point I felt like a god, Totally in control of everything and just amazing myself with my level of work.
About half an hour later, I had sharp shooting pain in my chest, I felt like I wanted to throw up so badly I thought I would turn inside out, I couldn't control my hands, and I began shaking and dropped to my knees. I sat down (on the sales floor of the stoor in the middle of an isle) and just felt like dying.
It took almost three days for my body to recover from the caffene overdose I subjected myself to.
I gained a frightening respect for energy supliments, realizing that they can do a serious amount of damage if abused, and certainly if taken in the insane amounts that I subjected myself to.
Sorry, I just had to share that after reading this thread. I do still drink some energy drinks in the mornings sometimes to wake myself up, (works better than coffee for me) but I make sure to stay well within the recomended limits of whatever I drink.
Lord knows I don't want a repeat of what I've already put myself through.
So, hello again, and hopefully after I proof read this ten times before I post it, I'll remember to do the propper introduction in the newbie section.
