View Full Version : College for me

I'd like to talk about my experiences with college and ADD if that's permitable. I found/find school frustrating sometimes. I do.

From taking notes to exams.

I find it hard concrentrating on a lecturing Professor. I can't write down everything a Professor, unlike some other students can. I only write down really what a Professor writes on the board, or shows on a computer, or uses anoverhead. (I had a history professor that used Power Point for his lectures, I loooovved that). That maybe 95% of the information, but that last 5% is what the teacher speaks, and mostly I miss it.

So to sum this up, i'm a bad note taker.

Second, moving on: Poor studier/test taker.
Well my first fault is lack of studying days before the exam.
Second, I can study a night before an exam and have my mind go blank on the test.

The only exemption to this is my Psychology class. But only because I found interest in that class.

But its frustrating when I study and only pass with a minimal grade (if that makes sense, not sure how else to say it).

Third, moving on, writing papers.
A pain in the rear. I dislike when an english teacher red inks what I think is an okay paper, and has me edit a paper a dozen times, then makes ME get behind the class.

just crazy.

But theres my two cents.

Much thanks

I've found that one way to do well on tests/exams--for me--is to study the night before, by rewriting all my notes in easier to understand form, get to sleep that night, and then keep studying in the morning by re-reading those notes over and over again, right up to the second the prof says 'put everything away we're going to start now.' I know some people say last-minute studying confuses more than helps, but for me, it's the only way I can keep some things in my head. I once got 99% on my mid-term exam doing that. 99%! I nearly cried I was so happy (and shocked). Unfortunately I don't have any tests this year, it's all essays, and those I leave to the very last minute. I put off my final research papers in four classes to the last month (this month--my screams of despair can be seen in the thread 'Aaarrrrgh!'). I've now finished most of one of them, the largest one (30-40 pages), and I should be working on the next one right now, but, of course, I'm doing something I shouldn't be.

Just a couple more posts to read and then, really, I'll get to work.
