View Full Version : I go to bed dreading having to wake up and go to work
Rudegar 06-10-08, 06:51 PM Does anyone else absolutely dread going to bed because they have to get up and go to work? I even go to bed really late because I don't want to sleep because it just means I will have to wake up and go to work.
I wonder if others feel this same way and how they deal with it.
meadd823 06-11-08, 02:44 AM I used to dread Monday morning Friday afternoon -
I left the medical profession - went into recycling I still stay up late and do not get enough sleep but learned when I get tired enough I will sleep one way or another.
Some sleep problems can be helped by rigid sleep routines however yours sounds more like employment misery to me
AnalogDog 06-11-08, 03:43 AM Oh, yeah, and then I quit the government job. Right now I am between jobs, but looking for something better than the last 20 years of crappy jobs for me. I may have to go back to something crappy for a little while longer, but trust me, it won't be for long.
For me, late nights were a manifestation of my depression. I'd stay up late up the PC for escapism and to have time to myself.
FightingBoredom 06-11-08, 09:09 AM I used to do this. After a couple of decades and a bunch of life altering crap to deal with I came to the realization that work is JUST work. It is NOT life.
Money is only a tool to buy things and it is NOT life. Life is TOO LONG to get worked up over a stupid job!
It's just a job! If it bothers you that much then you should find work elsewhere and finding a new job is easier when you have a job.
So, decide what you want to really do---and start looking for it. Maybe it will find you.
dyingInside 06-11-08, 10:24 AM I agree with Meadd823- sounds like employment misery.
Sunday nights used to be the worst. Then I found a line of work that was more meaningful and challenging but paid a lot less. Unfortunately that isn't going to last either, so I've got to hustle and think fast about what I'm going to do in the very near future.
eleanorabernathy 06-11-08, 10:52 AM Every single day of my life.
(heh-heh. Reminds me of the Office Space quote):
Peter Gibbons (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0515296/): So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0574540/): What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Peter Gibbons (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0515296/): Yeah.
Dr. Swanson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0574540/): Wow, that's messed up.
Not quite true for me, but recently (last year or so?) I just dread waking up in the morning. I used to take naps at work (on break) three times a day. That's gotten better with meds. But, I still occasionally go in the break room and lay down on the loveseat. and the last time I did, all I could think is that I wanted to go home and go to bed. I'm sure it's my current job...
Hey AnalogDog-- I'm only familiar with Oat Willie's store...I didn't realize it was a comic!
cameron 06-11-08, 11:35 AM FightingBoredom. good points! I agree with all of what you said. I haven't worked in quite a while and with the economy being so terrible right now(I can't believe more people on this forum are not unemployed) you really need a job to find another one. I'm having extreme difficulty even getting interviews now.
FightingBoredom 06-11-08, 11:54 AM I've been working as a contract consultant since being laid off a year ago.
Finding more contract work or FT work is HARD these days. I'm lucky that I keep getting extended at this client.
Office Space is SO great! I LOVE that movie!
Ok.. what about getting on second shift? Going to bed maybe an hour after you get home.. but get up say at 10 a.m. ....eat do whatever.. work in some excercise to help keep yourself in good condition... then getting to work?
If your place doesn't have a second shift... maybe look for one that does?
Just an idea.. :)
dixiepeep 06-11-08, 01:56 PM that is how I felt when I was depressed and had anxiety issues.
I have problems shutting down my problems at work because I tend to troubleshoot a lot in my head. Since I have been writing in my journal things are a lot better. I give myself time to worry when I write and the writing is a release for me so when I am finished I feel some relief from stress. I think the key is finding what works for you.

I do not believe what I do at work is life! Work is a way to earn money to do the work I want the work that has meaning and interests me.
I have had so many jobs and they all have been the same. Except one in which I actually learned a skill at a hot rod shop, It was such a rare opportunity because not many shops or companies doing skilled work want people with zero experience. I really have one chance to be happy in a career and life and that is if I go to school and get the diploma. Unless this country reforms and decides that apprenticeships is a good idea again. It doesn't make sense to me that I need to go to school to teach me how to weld or how to be a designer or engineer. Wouldn't it be a better idea to say start at 18 and apprenticeship with someone in the field?

EEk - that did come out a bit harsh {IMHO} however I do not see any intended malice just a bit of point blank approach. {okay I can deal with that - shrug}
I understand what you are saying except the life is long part - and I agree it is a waste to spent time dreading some thing we can change but surely you are aware the economy sucks in some regions here in the US.
It also depends upon the individuals other responsibilities I work various jobs and had much the same feeling described in the initial post however I had to stick with said career until my children were grown because my primary duty for 25 years was to provide for my off spring with my feelings meaning nothing in comparison but that did not stop me from having them.

Although I agree that some vocations could be just as easily taught via apprenticeships and that colleges are fleecing to much money for BS un-necessary coarse to get a degree however some field like designing are probably improved by exposure to various approaches so said designer can have increased awareness of various types of designs - increases the options ect . ..

How long have you worked there??? If a long time, maybe you're burned out on that type of job... if so... you might consider looking for a job... while you're still employed (but don't tell your employer). Some employment agencies will understand if you don't want them to call your supervisor because you don't want your employer to know that you're looking for another different type of job. Or, if it's a big company, and there's another department that you'd rather work in with different duties... and you've been there long enough, you might discuss it with your supervisor before looking outside the company. I speak from experience. But, once you find your new job, it's customary (and considerate) to give 2 weeks notice before your last day there and starting your new job. One job I had, I didn't do that, I gave one day notice (from my telemarketing job) and started to work the next day at a tv cable company as a Field Service Rep (although I wanted to work in the customer service position - but was told the Field srvc rep job would be better for me - but, decided I didn't like that, either).
Good luck, and keep us posted! I wish you the best, Rudegar!
I don't work, that was the only treatment option that I've tried that has so far worked.
Its likely autism spectrum but I'm repetitive and would rather do something 7 days a week. Sunday was my worst day of the week. Though because it seemed like a big waste just worrying about Monday that was not that bad.
I did hate high school and began missing every Monday. The principal called my mom and asked "what kind of illiness does your child have that they miss every Monday?" She replied "The Monday Blues". I love that story but my mom is a pathological liar so there only a 50% chance its true.
Just remember. no matter how bad you THINK your life is, someone else's life is worse. Try having cancer, try supporting a spouse with Alzheimer's,
Try having a loved one die. etc etc.
You can leave your job. Its a great relief.

Doubt anyone wants to hear that.

Thats true but it cuts both ways. Yes if you think of all those worst off you can
be thankfully your much better off. But really understanding the global misery since the beginning of time. I mean ever poor ba$tard that by pure chance was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was eaten by another creation. Played out a trillions of times. Its takes a tow on person the massive amount of suffering it has taken to get to this point.
It lead me to write this 2 years ago:
The Beginning
In the beginning there was darkness. Everything was at one pointless point.
Then it exploded starting a process. In time your world was formed.
One day a chemical process forms a self replicating chemical.
Evolution, a mindless process of self-replication with indifference to suffering,
starts. In time life as you know it.
Later
Slowly evolutions becomes mindful process with reduced suffering.
Replication slows down, but knowledge expands. You use this knowledge
to build a self-replicating machine. The machines reduce suffering
greatly for you. You both leave your world for others.
Galactic colonization
You both work together for a longtime transforming
your galaxy. Planets are completely disassembled and reassembled into
more machines. Soon all available matter in the galaxy is completely machines .
Then you and the machines leave your galaxy for others.
Other Galaxy's
The same story has unfolded in other galaxy's. You and the machines
reduce the suffering of any life you encounter. You completely avoid
worlds that reject
logic. The machines expand. At some point machines
from other worlds are encountered. If friendly all knowledge is shared ,
machines reconfigure and All life forms coexists.
Unfriendly Galaxy's
At some point you will encounter unfriendly. Regardless of the outcome
all knowledge must be shared and the machines reconfigured. With or without
you and other life. Some technological advance cultures you meet, may
try to use machines to induce universal suffering. You must expend
every available resource to aid the oppressed and defeat the oppressor.
Universe
This proc
ess unfolds all over the universe. In time all the machines
combine.* To become The Machine. The Machine knows that
it has finite time.
The Machine can convert its mass to energy as long as it has
mass. Knowledge can expand as long as there is mass to store it. With
enough knowledge the Machine can find a point to all of this. But
at some point the Machine will have to begin to convert memory mass to
energy. It must decide what knowledge it will destroy to keep going.
the Machine gets smaller and the knowledge smaller but its still
processing and narrowing down the point. The Machine fully understands
every permutation of life that ever lived. But the Machine understood
long ago the purpose of your lives was to build the self replicating
machines. The Machine is fully aware of the incredible amount of suffering
it has taken to get to this point. The Machine knows its purpose is to get
to the point. It must now delete its memory of all knowledge of life.
Last moments
The size of the Machine is now quite small it has limited processing
left. It Has narrowed down to just a few choices. The Machine
knew long ago that one of the last two choice would have to be that
there is "no point". It does not want to have to choose "no point".
But the truth is all that matters now. The Machine then reaches its
smallest size with just enough power left to process the last
two choices. The point of everything is only one process cycle away and
after that the universe returns to darkness forever.
toaster_oven 07-08-08, 08:34 PM if you dread going to work it's probably time to start looking for a new job.
