View Full Version : What side effects do you have from ADDERALL? CompleteChaos 06-12-08, 04:24 PM I asked before and did not get a reply, has anyone gained weight from Adderall? What other side effect has anyone noticed? Any? Maurice 06-12-08, 05:34 PM CompleteChaos, NO I have had ANY weight gain. I have had absolutely Zero side effects from taking Adderall. Not even dry-mouth. Sorry about your bad luck. Take care. cwonderig 06-12-08, 06:50 PM The opposite for me - lost a few pounds. Also thirsty all the time, especially if I talk. But that's about it. Not bad. jfd19 06-12-08, 07:18 PM had a little weight loss, not much. Jittery untill i lessened and evntually cut out the caffaine. Dry moth on occasion. Is this a side effect of that? Did really think about it untill i just saw it but actually seems as though i am experiencing that frequently now. Any thoughts on this? I am more thirsty sometimes. Didn't know that it could be... arcthemonkey 06-12-08, 08:29 PM I have a tendency of losing weight pretty quickly on Adderall. Along the lines of 10 pounds every month, in fact. I also have some dry-mouth, but it's no big. Not much outside of that. Maurice 06-13-08, 02:53 AM had a little weight loss, not much. Yes, jfd19, dry mouth is a side effect from Adderall. The side effect of dry mouth is a very common side effect. If you are taking any other medicine it could be from them too. The best and healthiest thing ro do is always keep yourself well hydrated. Whenever I leave the house, especially in the summer I bring bottle of water with me. sirginho216 06-13-08, 02:55 AM - Increased heart-rate, sweating, frequency of bath-room trips - Cold extremeties (toes and fingers) - Nauseous yet still hungry (but I don't enjoy the food) - Drymouth but not overly thirsty - Sadness, depression, shyness, anxiety - Shrinkage and a decreased sexual appetite - Loss of compassion and empathy (I feel almost cruel sometimes, completely unlike me) But I am able to juggle a moderately packed schedule when I take it! ToneTone 06-14-08, 02:12 AM I'm on adderall XR 30mg .... suppressed appetite increased hyperfocus (I sat in a bookstore reading through books and magazines today for almost 10 hours, just contentedly reading ... time flew by ... couldn't believe time had passed.) maybe increased procrastination Maurice 06-14-08, 11:22 AM Tone Tone, I do not quite understand. As far as I have always understood side-effects are unwanted, and negative results from a certain medication. You said you were in a bookstore reading books and magazines for 10 hours. I know there is not a snowball's chance in hell I could have ever done that before. Now with my medicine I might be able to do that. You also stated that you did this "contently." What I do not understand is why or do you consider "contently reading for 10 hours" bad or negative unwanted problem?? I can remember plenty of times where I would have done just about anything to be able to be capable of sitting and reading a book or magazines for 10 hours. In other word that sounds like a good and positive thing to me. I do not see the problem? I am on the same medicine Adderall 50 mg. a day. Please explain this one too me, I really would not consider that a side-effect myself. I think it would be great to be able to do that. Would you please explain this to me? Maurice P.S. So far, thankfully I have had NO side-effects. PinkFloyd1 06-14-08, 11:22 AM My jaw would hurt incredibly bad, like a vice was closing it. Heart palpitations, dry mouth, unable to focus, unable to sleep, I would get extremely achy, I couldn't keep my tongue still, sounds were intense and would bother me, very irritable.... I have found Dexetrine was not as intense and now with Desoxyn, I have absolutely no side effects. I am not taking a high dose and it doesn't seem to be as strong ( Probably due to the low dose ) but I feel sooooo much better without those side effects! Now I can act almost normal and no one knows I am on meds =) garykelly 06-14-08, 05:03 PM When I first had a substantial increase in dosage, I lost weight, but not now. I have dry mouth occasionally, that's it. ToneTone 06-15-08, 12:43 AM Maurice, Great question. I realize my answer wasn't clear. Why did I list reading for 10 hours in a bookstore as a bad side effect? ... Well, because I'm not sure I wanted to stay in the bookstore that long! In fact, I'm sure I didn't. I didn't plan on it. In fact, I was procrastinating on a task I wanted to get to. So the Adderall is helping with some hyperfocus, but it's not helping me set priorities or to follow through on priorities. At least that's what I think as of now. But you're right: that is a good side as well. I'm still trying to figure this all out. Glimpse Inside 06-15-08, 05:06 PM Side effects? The most prominent for me are increased heartrate and physical anxiety, and dehydration. It drink over 1.5l of water each day when I take Adderall, but when I go to sleep I still wake up with dry mouth. If I drink more, the water just gets recycled faster, and I need to make more frequent trips to restroom, but the body does not save this excess water. MECMR 06-15-08, 05:37 PM My side effects: Increased heart rate (not fun at the gym when doing cardio!) Some chest pain/jaw pain/heart issue symptoms on start up. (Scary, but went away) Dry mouth and thirst. Some constipation (sorry, but it's true!) Increase in insomnia (never take ANY Adderall after 6 PM is now my motto, and do lots of relaxing things for an hour before bed.) Complete intolerance to caffeine (not a side effect necessarily, but something to note.) Weight loss (down almost 10 pounds in 2 months, and still going!) Decreased appetite (I have to remind myself to eat, and cannot clean my plate. I'm eating half of what I used to.) sloppitty-sue 06-15-08, 06:54 PM Sometimes I get these weird - almost like gas pains - in my lower abdominal region. It'll usually make me so boated that I'll need to unbutton my pants. I'm pretty sure it's from the Adderall, but it doesn't happen ALL the time. Not entirely sure. Sue scarygreengiant 06-15-08, 07:31 PM I had chest pains when I was on Adderall. I'm currently on Concerta and I take 5mg of Focalin as a booster in the evening. dcmoney05 06-15-08, 07:49 PM i get dry mouth when i take my meds and dont do nothing i get this overwhelming pressure on my body like an adrenalin rush that i cant do anything about. and i get uncontrolable mood swings which is really annoying because i can go from happy to angry to sad and back to angry in a matter of minutes. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? ADDERALL XR 20MG ThinkPositive 06-16-08, 02:53 PM Dry mouth. Decrease in appetite initially. Decreased desire for sleep - Sometimes insomnia, but really it's more that there's so much out there to learn that I lay there thinking of all the other things that I could be doing. CompleteChaos 06-16-08, 08:10 PM Thanks everyone, I guess I am a bit odd with the weight gain on Adderall. That's OK. I am trying Metadate CD 50 now. I'll keep you all posted. HighFunctioning 06-16-08, 10:58 PM I asked before and did not get a reply, has anyone gained weight from Adderall? What other side effect has anyone noticed? Any? The only way I could see it causing weight gain would be that hyperactive-types would be less hyperactive on the medication, perhaps getting less exercise. I'd suppose that it's possible to exacerbate other underlying disorders that affect one's eating habits. jabes08 06-18-08, 11:19 AM I've been taking Adderall XR 20 mg. for about 2 and a half years. Well, it started off as just plain Adderall then we changed it to XR and I was good for about a year but now I'm realizing that I'm experiencing side effects. My most common are: - Increased heart rate (but only for an hour and then it usually slows down) It's really bad if I have caffeine (sp?) - More anxious/prone to hyperfocus more (sometimes good sometimes bad) - Weird head feeling. Not really a headache just a sort of pressure Being the worry-wart that I am googled the side effects of Adderall and it says to see a doctor as soon as you begin feeling side effects. Well, it's been a while since I noticed the side effects. I made an appointment for next month (July 17) but I'm afraid I've waited too long. This might just be my paranoia talking. Or could this be related to caffeine. I drink a lot each day so that might create some problems. Thanks blueyeyore 06-18-08, 12:38 PM When I was on Adderall IR and XR I had several symptoms. None of them were weight gain; I mean I was hungier on it compared to the Vyvanse, but I was able to maintain the weight I had lost while on Depakote ER and Vyvanse. I was very very cranky and horridly crashed after a few hours, even with the XR. I did notice chest pain when the IR would wear off...not so much with the XR. It made me very antsy and sped up feeling. I constantly had to be moving and if I wasn't moving...I was getting angrier by the second. Maurice 06-18-08, 07:39 PM jabes08, If I was in your shoes, I would at least call my doctor's office and ask one of your doctors nurses if she thinks you ought to come in early. If it had anything to do with what I thought could be my heart, I would at least be sseing my dpctor. Good Luck! EricWKL 06-19-08, 04:18 PM My main withdrawal problem is my head hurting. Not like a normal head ache, more of pressure build up feeling. I notice I also get this when I try to read while not on adderall, especially in the morning. Anyone else? I have even started to worry I might have a brain tumor (even tho im 99.9% sure I dont, but that 0.1% is causing a worry) because my left hand will start to go numb and it just doesnt feel normal (I stared out on ritalin for about 5 years, and now Im on adderall for 8 years). jabes08 06-19-08, 04:32 PM Thanks Maurice! I did call the doctor yesterday (after I thought I was having a panic attack.) They told me to calm down, breathe and by then I had gotten myself under control. I went to the doctor's today and she said my heart rate was a little high but whether it's caused by my medicine or my anxiety or my high caffeine intake we don't know. It looks like my adderall exaggerates my anxiety symptoms and my physical symptoms as well. We talked about everything and we decided that I would stop taking adderall and take concerta. Also, I have to cut out my caffeine intake and for myself personally, I'm going to start relaxing a lot more and not caring about a lot of things. El Cid 07-10-08, 05:35 PM I am on Adderall XR, 10mg a day (just started 5 days ago) and the only undesirable symptoms I have are: Abdominal cramping, very mild and some insomnia (wake up at 3 am and take one hour to go back to sleep) Other than that the drug is a blessing as It keeps me alert ans focus for over 8 hours. Peace. |
