Hi :)
My doctor prescribed me with 90mg of Concerta (or 80mg of Ritalin LA).
What do you guys think about it? Is it too much?
I weigh 92 kg (could you tell me how much mg per kg is usually prescribed?).
And a question - Since I wasn't authorized to take more than 60mg atm (government restriction until further notice) I tried taking just one pill of 54mg. I didn't feel much effect (not even for 2 hours). Does it work for 12 hours, with less effect, or is there a connection between the dosage and the effect time? (90mg for 12 hours, and 54mg for about 7 hours).
thanks~!

hi there, im newly diagnosed so what do i know.... but im pretty sure it has nothing to do with how much you weigh. Everyone's brain is different.
i am on ritalin, slow release, so far, but maybe soon to try the long lasting....
i am taking 2X3 of 10gm, so 60mg. But some days i have taken 70mg. Im still sleeping with no problems, and not feeling any euphoria. I saw my pdoc today and he is not worried about my 70mg.
Put it this way, prior to RIT, i was drinking 12 cups of real coffee a day, and still sleeping fine. Some people , i have read get speedy and "weird" on a small amount, others need more.... we are all different, what ever works for you, and i think finding a good doc is a big part of the battle, they should be the "authority" on what is what in meds.... but if they dont listen to you, then i would be worried, just my 2 cents worth. Good Luck.

Thank you for your reply :)
As much as I know (and told by my psychiatrist) it does have to do with your body mass (as the methylpenidate is released to your blood stream). Not researched it enough though to find out the exact reasons.
How much do you weigh btw?

how much do i weigh? hmmm.. maybe 65kg, dunno what that is in pounds.
He is going to start me on 40mg of slow release i think and go up to 60mg... and wait and see.But not for another week, i had a stress ful week thats to "life" stuff (material for another post) so WE are waiting a week till things settle down before changing meds. This is only my 3rd visit to him, but i like that he is listening and not pushing meds on me. Its a huge learning curve, i know that much, and getting the medication part right can be a slow process. I think the BIG problem is maybe me being impatient. Im 42 and only just been diagnosed, so i dont want to waste any more time!!!

Heh, you and me togather pal (I might be younger) but I had my ADHD found out about just last week.
I'm anxious as you are, to start my life again. I would suggest you read my "frustration" post at the General ADD talk ("and how frustration kicks in"). Its abit aggresive, but it points out some perspectives.
Thanks for your help ;)

I have been told by my sons dr and read numerous articles that state body weight is not a determining factor as to the dose you take. It is based on metabolism and body chemical. It can sometimes be a hit and miss process.
Because Ritalin and Concerta are from the same family your doctor most likely prescribed that dose b/c it is equivialnt to what you were taking with the ritalin.
When my son started on the Concerta he noticed (as did we) in the 1st day. He takes his pill at 8 am and its with him until 6 pm most nights.
In the end it might just be that Concerta is not right for your body make-up.

Well I can't really tell, because I only took 54mg. Next week I'd try the 90mg (when gov finally authorize me this dose).
Any suggestions? I mean, I almost didn't feel a thing with the 54mg. Should I just go on and try Ritalin LA or a different concerta dose?
