I read that stomach ache might be a side effect of concerta usage (up to 7%).

On Thursday morning I took 54mg (when I'm supposed to take 90 but as said, gov has yet to authorize it), and about 14-15 hours later I felt my stomach bloated, and it only passed during the night. The following day (Fridays evening, almost 32 hours after I took the 54mg) my stomach felt REALLY bad. Could this be related? After so many hours?

Its just the first time I took Concerta.

Is this the first methyphedinate based med you've ever taken?
I started with ritalin and it sucked; not hunger, horrible headaches, etc. Now on concerta 54 mg it last about 7 hours for me, works like magic and the only side effect I've experienced lately are these flashes and that ******* high pitch sound, specially when I take it late and I'm trying to sleep (since everything is quiet I can hear it more).

Man, it's so hard to tell with side effects isn't it? I can only offer a few suggestions ...

1.) If the medication is working for you or has great promise, you might wanna stay with it awhile, but often our bodies adjust and correct for these types of side effects ....Your stomach is probably holding meetings with its various parts as we speak ... the cells and antibodies and all are planning how to counteract this upset thing brought on by the new drug ....

2.) Try to relax and think back to ANY changes in your eating routine in the days since you started the meds. This is a challenge, because when I do this exercise, my first response is "No, I've made no changes." Then I quietly let my mind think and sometimes there is some little change I didn't think about ....or something I ate on a particular day that could be really straining the stomach ......

I feel for ya ... this sucks ... so how is the med working otherwise?

Some updates regarding Concerta usage

I've been to my psychiatrist. She was amazed the first psychiatrist instantly wrote 90mg Concerta. She told me I should have started gradually (but for real - atleast a week or two or 36mg, than atleast a week or two of 54, and climing up ONLY as needed).

I only had like 2 doses of 36 and 2 of 54 .. the rest were 90mg stright on - WHICH HAD NO ATTENTIVE EFFECT AT ALL.

She said I gotta let my body adjust to the OROS (slow release mechanism of Concerta) and it might not work at the first 2-3 weeks.

Secondly, regarding my side effects - I actually had none. What I was describing was a sheer poor coincidence (as it always happens, like Murphey used to say) of spoilted Tuna salad.

What happened is that the first day I took 54mg, I also ate a spoilted Tuna salad sandwich. I didn't even notice it till I remembered the funny taste it had only a WEEK after! I blamed the concerta until I figured I had a bed stomech for 3 days :(

Concerta doesn't have any side effect on me. Infact, other than abit calming my hyperactiveness, it doesn't affect me at all. I gotta start it gradually and report again. Meanwhile I'm on Ritalin LA, trying to figure my perfect dose.
