Hi, I am new here and I notice there are a ton of threads on Addreall.
I was like wow!
Well here I go...
My 7 years was just put Adderall XR 20mg. Today is his 5th day.
Now my son is like the 1st to get up and is all over the house like a ping pong ball. However the last two days he has been VERY calm. YES!!!
However about 1 to 2 hours after taking the meds, he falls asleep. I mean a deep sleep, like raising a loud voice he don't wake up easy.
Is this something to be concerned about?

That should probably subside considerably after a while. I noticed that i needed to increase my dose when I was getting tired in the beginning also. If a nap is possible, nothing wrong with that either. I wish I could take a nap after taking my meds late afternoon, im just too ADD stubborn to, even though i could be dead tired, an know it would do me good, pretty stupid, but thats my brain, MED

Be aware that some have paradoxical effects to stimulants. In which case, perhaps Provigil might be preferable.
But yes, give it a week or two.
Good luck!

My first days of Adderall, I felt like my brain was broke. It was peaceful for sure, but it also seemed not to be working. I walked down the street and wasn't thinking, not about anything. Felt strange.
I would say it took maybe 4 weeks for my brain and body to feel more normal, not like it previously felt, but not that broken, empty sense of things. Maybe I started to see a change after 2 or 3 weeks. But by four it was pretty clear.
So I wonder if the calming effect of the drug is throwing off your son's system for now. It may take his body and brain some time to rejigger itself so that it complements the new medicine (if that makes sense).
Well, at least you have some good news with the calming effect. I'd say stretch it out if you can for a while. There's a good chance his body will adjust after a couple of weeks. You can always call the doc, and he may adjust dose up or down. Since you are seeing the calming effect, I'd play around for a while before switching entirely to different drug.
The human body and brain are quite resilient. And that resilience, I guess comes into play as it adjusts to a new medicine.
