View Full Version : Get off the Computer and get your Behind to Work!!
Leigha01 06-18-08, 11:35 AM Ok, Really this thread is hopes that some of you can help me, I am really close to losing my job. I might have one more week if I continue the pace that I have.
What I want from this thread is someone to help me!! And I am pretty sure it could help others at the same time.
So for those of you who do make it to work in an office or outside of your home before you get on here. If you would so Kindly just Put a post on here on the days you remember. LOL!!
It might just be the motivation some of us need to get our A** of the computer and do our jobs.
I have a home office, but I need to go visit stores every day, I am really struggling to do so.
OH AND BY THE WAY, PLEASE BE VERY BLUNT HERE. SOME OF US REALLY NEED THAT!!! (AT LEAST I DO!!)
Please Help!!
cameron 06-18-08, 11:44 AM This post has me confused? anyone care to explain?
Leigha01 06-18-08, 11:50 AM My hope is that someone on the forums will continue this post every day. I have to start my day by getting on the computer. But as several of us with ADHD, I begin to Hyperfocus on things not related to my work.
This has caused me to not leave the house and do the store visits I should be doing. My thought was to subscribe to this thread and if someone is posting their thoughts on it. It would work as a reminder to get my behind out of the house and do my store visits!!
I don't seem to be able to find help anywhere else, so I thought I would try another avenue is all!!
Leigha have you gone out on your second half of the job today? Or are you still hyperfocusing here?

Thanks Mary!! That is the type of reply I was looking for!! I hope it can help others too!!
You're welcome.... and it's after 12 here.. not sure what it is there... ;) but you'll never get anything done.. ;) if you're not moving soon. ;)
Grafter 06-18-08, 12:07 PM Get to work, grrrl!
Leigha, get to work!
I get in this space myself, and if I get a kick in the pants, I make myself, literally FORCE myself, to shut off the PC and move away from the desk. Try it, do it now!
I'm off from work all week, and I am supposed to be housecleaning, so I am going to take my own advice and shut this thing down, and not come back until 1:15 PM. Let's see if I can do it!
blueyeyore 06-18-08, 12:41 PM I would set my Outlook Calander and my phone to remind me every 1.5-2 hours, depending on the day...to keep working.
*cracks a whip* Breaks over!!
Get back to work!

Ohhhh, that's a good one!
I forgot to mention, it worked! Things got done around here, and done by me! Yay!
Leigha, I hope you have not replied because you are already out and doing what you must do. Update us when you get home, after your work is done!

Can we explore why you do not like visiting the stores? Is it the interaction with others? Is the travel time too long? Do they smell bad? What is it?

Hey I learned something from your post, MECMR! You may be helping others more than you know!
I think I need to do that Outlook calendar - thing... I'm not working yet... but I'll know what to do! Besides when I do start working... I'll have some mental ammunition to get myself to do what I'm suppose to.
teremka 06-18-08, 07:59 PM What about using Time Out? It's a program that will remind you to limit your computer time.
Or setting an alarm?
Leigha01 06-19-08, 12:24 AM Thanks All, Yes I made it to my stores today. Glad to see some others got some help from it too!!!
Three cheers for Leigha! HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTAGIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D
Iknewit 06-25-08, 12:16 PM I have this problem also. When I get to work I have to get on the internet and check out my "favorite sites" and once I have been to them all I can start working. Sometimes it can be very time consuming and I won't start "working" for 1 - 2 hours after I got here! I really love news websites and celebrity news webistes. I will go back check them throughout the day. Since starting medication I have been better about the checking throughout the day, but I still have my morning routine I wish I could break!
Hey Leigha... did you get to your stores today?
Leigha01 06-26-08, 12:20 PM No, I guess I don't need to worry about the stores for a little while. My Dr. took me off until July 2nd. Seems my underactive Thyroid, BiPolar issues, and ADHD combined have caused a very severe depression. And my perfectionist nature is causing me to go into overwhelm with too many things to do.
So with that in mind, I have started new meds and a new objective for the next week.
So far I have completed the remodeling project in my Living room. I must say that really helped.
I have also created a very detailed "To do list" I broke it down into very small steps, so instead of it saying "Organize office" it now says Put all devices in correct boxes, clean off desk, etc. Seems to be working so far. Wish me luck, and Thanks so much for all your support.
Ah.... I hope the new treatment plan works. I am glad to see you have accomplished something .. and that the doctor is helping you in that quest. Good luck... and I will keep checking in.

Until I begin taking my ADD meds again, I have to do my "work" BEFORE checking out my favorite sites, and email, etc... or I will get distracted while on the internet and reading email and never get my "work" started!:o
