View Full Version : Losing effectiveness?

I've been on Strattera for about 3 months now, currently taking 100 mg before bed. I've never had a problem with side effects, but it just doesn't seem to be doing much for me any more. For a couple of weeks after I went up from 60 to 80, I was feeling great--very alert and clear-headed. But that feeling seems to be gone, and I have the same problems at work as I had before, an inability to focus, concentrate, and be careful and attentive. I keep zoning out, staring out the window, and surfing the internet when I'm supposed to be working, and I feel kind of fuzzy and unable to think and focus when something doesn't particularly interest me--again, just like before I started Strattera.

The Strattera still seems to be doing something for my anxiety and is helping keep me a little more motivated in terms of organization, but it seems useless for the "attention" part of ADD. I'm thinking of phasing it out and trying something else. Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't really experienced a loss in effectiveness by I really don't notice when I'm on it any more. It sorta feels like my body has really gotten used to it and I really don't have any side effects from it. I think it's that I get the benefits without even noticing I'm on the medication. It still helps and greatly controls my symptoms.

Strattera has worked pretty well for me so far (been on it for three weeks). I had some rough side effects for a while there. I thought that it wasn't really working very well for a while until I forgot to take it one morning and I was wandering around the grocery store wondering what I went there for.

I would hate to have you go off it and then realize that it was working and you didn't notice it.

PS is your job boring? Even Strattera can't help with that!!

PPS It may be that you want to talk to your doc about augmenting your Strattera with a stimulant like Ritalin to give you the attentional boost that you need.

Yes. If you are taking it at night and once, it may wear out after 10-12 hours or so. I tried taking it at night and had the same experience (in addition to the insomnia). I do not think it lasts 24 hours (as it is touted), especially if you have high metabolism like myself.

I am taking 120mg (60 at 8am and 60 around 2pm), and that gives me a good coverage until I go to bed around 11pm.

Have you tried taking it during the day?

I actually love strattera, was abit iffy wen i started, tired...moddy etc....but this is week 4 and yes....i feel more relaxed/confident, it actually enhances me, the funny/witty guy that i kinda lost somewhere wen taking dex.No real focus like the amphetamine but im organised n know what i have to do and just go "boom boom boom" getting one thing done afta the other and the best thing is....i dont feel "on" anything....feels really natural to me!

I'm alot happier, life seems to b comming 2gether finally.....

noted side effects....

*some painful orgasm every now n then
*loving the vivid dreams
* coverage lasts bout 4/5 hours, i take 80mg just now!
*Head tingles wen i think happy thoughts/pee and when something gernerally exciting happens in my life.
* I wanna get involved more in activities/people 2...im a social cat anywayz.

Best thing is, no fast heart-rate/insomnia/Can eat just like normal/dont crave alcohol but still enjoy. All round improved me, 5 gold starz +++ lol

I take Strattera every morning and, yeah, this sounds an awful lot like where I'm at at the moment. I've been on Strat for about six weeks now.

The first couple of weeks, there was a dramatic "shift" (as well as some...rather alarming side effects). But over the last couple of weeks (weeks 5 and 6 of the course of medication, basically) I'm finding myself less panicked than I was, but not noticably more productive at work. Returning to old, bad habits.

That said, I work in a very high-stress job and my difficulties may not be due to the medication, but rather the, whatchamacallit, "co-morbidities" that I developed over the years (insecurity, avoidance, procrastination, retreat from conflict).

However, yes, I've certainly had similar thoughts - "Is this working? Is it worth continuing with this medication?" It's hard to unravel the medical side of things from the psychological/emotional side, though. :(
