It would seem there is no perfect meds for the adhd'er!
I find that there are ok to good effects for the daytime but Im finding nights too unstable.
Its a shame there is no way to feel that nice calm quiete focused feeling I get during the day - all the time. It would make sleeping a sure thing. I find sleep is becoming an issue
if you take too much during the day its nap time - if i take too much at night im up all night ????? I cant seem to get this worked out -
Anyone else got this issue. Im begining to hate the end of the day - (on the plus side mornings are better than they have ever been.

I've heard that for some people, stimulants help them sleep - the calming effect you mention. Have you ever tried taking a very small dose of the Dex to see if it helps you sleep? (enough to get the calming effect but not enough to prevent sleep - if that's possible).
Small doses do work .... But unpredicably.
When I first tried them at night I thought I had found a cure!! Started with 1.25 mg - 1/2 h before bed. Best result found at 2.5 mg
Interestingly - I have slept during the day with a dose of 10mg dex. Comatose sleep! Unfortunatly my job dont allow for sleep during the day very often.
I have tried doing this at night and the effect is completelly different- calm alright but simply cant sleep- and too lethargic to do anything else.
Problem is it is very unpredictable and as mentioned above - too much or too little seems too hard to deturmine - some nights are great others - no sleep at all -
Last night I only got 2 hours-
O yeah - sedatives do not work at all - They make me extreamelly iratable and figity for days afterwards. Sleeping pills of any type make sleep impossable! (wierd)

I'm an insomniac a lot of the time and I'm not even on stimulants. I know what 2 hours of sleep feels like - not good! The antidepressant I take makes me very sleepy and helps me sleep through the night without waking - I love it. The drug is called Remeron. It's kind of similar to Strattera in that it works primarily on noradrenaline - but also on serotonin. One of the main reasons people stop taking it is the knockout effect it has! Oddly enough the sleep effect is more noticable at low dosages - 15mg is all most people need. I have few side effects from it, but that's all dependant on the person - it doesn't have the typical side effects of SSRI's (i.e. no sexual side effects). If other stuff hasn't worked, it might be worth a shot. It is used "off-label" for ADD/ADHD so it might even help a bit there too.
Ask your Dr.
Good luck,
Greg
Thanks for your input here Gregster
Ill give it a try - I have an appointment to see the doc on the 23rd. (im geeting low on dex.) I will ask him about it. In the mean time Im going to look up all I can on it- Have not heard of this one before.
Have you tried it?
Effects in the day?
Most sedatives - acually all sedatives ive tried make me more figity - esp. as they wear off.
It seems even if i have no sleep the night before as soon as evening comes around I perk up.
Tonight I try going back to lots of caffine before bed. It has often worked in the past.

My problem is if I take only one dose of Dex during the day at the time when I'd usually take my 2nd dose, I'm up all night when it wears off.
