View Full Version : Sexual side effects, but no perm. damage, right?
moo4dougie 06-24-08, 10:45 PM Okay. I hesitate to post this... not because I think it's "inappropriate;" rather for two reasons: 1) some guy posted about ten different threads regarding adderall and "size", and his persistence and the ensuing discussion seemed a bit ridiculous.... and 2) I think I already know the answer to this...
So like many of you on here, I am experiencing sexual side effects with Strattera. I just started, so I'm not too worried... I know side effects are to be expected.
I am just seeking reassurance that side effects (like quasi-impotence, delayed/out-of-sync ejaculation, etc...) are not causing PERMANENT DAMAGE.
That's all I'm worried about; can anyone confirm, based on their understanding, that I don't need to worry about PERMANENT DAMAGE based on these side effects?
And second... does strattera cause these side effects because of vascular constriction, similar to stimulants? If so, why is strattera producing a similar physiological response?
----
Yes: I am calling my doctor in the morning.
All I know is I have the delayed/ out of sync orgasm ... followed by... no pleasure... the whole experience right now isn't pleasurable at all.
I haven't had my penis working properly since September of last year and haven't had a decent orgasm since then either... life isn't fair sometimes...
Oh well we can always sue the company.
Edit: Sorry I'm talking about SSRIs here (they all did this to me)...
moo4dougie 06-24-08, 11:47 PM I'm getting the impression this is common to all SSRIs, SSNIs, and stimulants. I'm wondering if this is all due to vascular constriction. (If it is, then I don't think there's really any risk of permanent damage...) But given your story, this is gonna be frustrating for quite a while...
The erections I can acheive aren't as "impressive" as they once were... hows that for depression?
addperson 06-25-08, 01:00 AM sexual side effects common in meds that effect serotonin like the SSRIs. about 2 years ago i was taking prozac and had absolutely no sex drive on prozac... for a long time i had barely any. i started taking wellbutrin which is somewhat known to help restore some sex drive. it helped a little. mine is still minimal, but i think my testosterone levels were kind of screwed up somewhat from all the meds ive taken... im trying to get them higher to get back to normal...
moo4dougie 06-25-08, 01:43 AM i seem to be really prone to side effects with what i've tried, which is adderall xr, metadate cd, and now strattera... i'm gonna talk to my doctor about the possibility of wellbutrin.... i really would like to have some sexual functionality
playhero 06-28-08, 12:28 PM No it's not permanent. It's a 'normal' side effect. You might want to switch to another medication if this a problem for you. Strattera (http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=91) has no side effects for me, a different medication may have no side effects for you.
The SSRIs caused me a lot of sexual side effects, but I did not have any problem on Wellbutrin. The stimulants seem to increase my sex drive, or it could be that my sex drive is just normal now that I am off high doses of Lexapro.
The Midnighter 07-16-08, 03:29 PM I'm having a lot of sexual problems on Strattera as well, I cannot stay errect, it doesn't feel as good, blah blah blah... you've all heard it before.
It's to a point now, where I'm ready to stop taking the pills again. I need my sex! >_<
Its kind of more important for anxiety and depression to be able to have good sex isnt it... I think we've made a quantitative anaylsis, we should submit this to the FDA.
The Midnighter 07-16-08, 03:53 PM Not worded like that, though. Haha.
I don't think I'm depressed, however I lived with Chronic Depression so long I worry that it's just become the 'norm' for me, so I wouldn't notice if I were actually... well, depressed.
I definitely have anxiety though, I have a hard time even talking to the store clerk....
No permanent side effects from the medication. Mental side effects...maybe. Us guys know what that is like. It only takes one little blip of a thought to mess up the mechanics of sexual performance.

penguin 07-18-08, 02:08 PM I got off it and returned to "normal" in about 4 days. Bathroom trips and sex are necessities, at least for me. ...Ken

Yep same here, I stopped about 4 days ago as well and I'm back at peak efficiency ;)
moo4dougie 07-19-08, 03:12 AM I stopped taking it. I returned to normal very quickly--in a matter of two or three days.
It was also causing my blood pressure to go up too high. Glad I chose to stop it.
curseandablessi 07-19-08, 10:54 AM That um delayed thing can be a positive. Hubby takes it.
Mister U 07-19-08, 11:22 PM Wellbutrin seems to make my orgasms more intense and makes me able to perform twice as often. The increase in pleasure is by about a factor of 5 and I will just twitch and twitch while my girlfriend giggles at me. In fact all pleasure seems much more intense and bleak thoughts simply don't occur any more - SSRIs seem to put me 'up' but I like the w much better because I feel like normal except the depression can't close in on me. On the down side it makes me a little more anxious and I had a lot of trouble sleeping on it, and like the Adderall XR it's expensive. It also does help some with the ADD. Not as much as the Adderall XR(which basically abolishes it completely), but maybe like lessens it 20% or so. Not amazing, but far better than nothing, and unlike ssris it's also fine to take it if you are not depressed. I am very depressive, so I also take st john's wort and 5htp as well, which are nice because they have no side effects, but for most people that would be way too much.
I started strattera and no sexual side effects yet but the libido is low probably due to 75 mgs of effexor I'm taking. I had my testosterone checked and it is low at 60 so I'm taking 240 mgs of andriol per day and after 2 weeks I'm not gettig the wanted effect.
I'm also on epival for bipolar II.
Maybe its all that anxiety from trying these meds
