Hey, I was diagnosed 2 months ago with ADD (combined inattentive and hyperactive). My doctor wanted to try Strattera, as it's the safest medication. He gave me 4 weeks worth of it and sent me on my way.

Well, it's been 2 weeks since I starting taking it, and there have been absolutely zero positive effects. Now for the negatives: I sleep no less than 13 hours a night, I'm constantly tired, I'm more antisocial (if that's possible), and I'm slowly sliding down the slippery slope of depression.

The point is, this particular medication is not for me, but should I stop taking it? I've heard it can take up to 3 weeks for it to work for some people. In my opinion, there's not point in taking a medicine that isn't doing anything for me except making my problems worse.

Should I just keep swollowing that infernal blue capsule every morning and hope for the best?

If it were ME, I'd quit taking it and call my doctor and explain why, and that I'd like to try something else.

Personally, if I'm veering toward depression, I'm less willing to "wait it out". If the side effect causing concern is something like constipation, or headache, then I'm maybe a bit more likely to give it more time. Depression just isn't something I want to fool with.

I'd go ahead and call the doc on Monday and tell him your feeling badly. My husband became raging on the strattera and sweat just poured off of his body.

This is pritty much normal. Give it the 4 weeks. My first 2 weeks were the same as yours, after that it started to work really well. I could not even bring myself to get out of bed for more than half the day in the first two weeks, after the depression passed my aggressiveness and anger increased. I broke my cell phone in an argument which is the first time in my life i've broken something due to anger. That to shall pass. It takes about two months for the medication to have full effect and for your mood to restablize.

i'm on week 6 and still nothing as far as i can tell. i was told to increase my daily dose from 80 to 100, which i still need to do (been putting it off becuase of the cost and didn't want to waste pills). i'll give the 100/day a couple weeks, but i am not expecting anything personally. i guess it's definitely possible that some people experience no benefit whatsoever.

Sometimes it is the people around you who notice the difference more than you will. It's not the same as curing a bad cough. The changes are much more subtle.

Although I have been taking Straterra over 3 years, I still have trouble keeping organized, but it is easier to pull it together and make lists, etc.

I have been moodier while on strattera

also i notice not nearly as much help with my add as i did with focalin

my psychiatrist will not give me anymore focalin because i was having suicidal thoughts but my psychologist and i decided to give it a try and i finished out my months script of focalin. it was great i do think i needed an up in strength of the focalin

my point is

it was night and day for me the difference between strattera and focalin
stratterra did nothing focalin did it all

Okay, I thought it was time for an update.

It's been 3 weeks, and still no change. In fact, it's only getting worse.

The first two weeks I was taking 25mg. The second two weeks I'm supposed to take 40mg.

It's been a week since I upped the dosage, and it's been nothing but problems. No matter how much food I eat beforehand, I still puke up the pill. And on the days that I can keep it down, I get home from work and sleep non-stop until the next morning (I get off at 3pm, so you do the math).

I've decided that I'm done with this med. If it's making me nauseous and lethargic whenever I take it, there's no point in continuing. I'm going to call my doctor on Monday and tell him that I would like to try another prescription.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I really appreciate the responses.

try an amphetamine or methylphenidate... what i do now is use strattera with an amphetamine to keep alot of norepinephrine in my system... methylphenidates didnt work for me but they work great for many. you should get quick results from amphetamines usually on day 1. talk to your doctor about other meds.. good luck:cool:
