I just read this page, http://www.xanax-effects.com/xanax_prescription.html (http://www.xanax-effects.com/xanax_prescription.html). here I came across the dangers of getting addicted to an anti depressant. I wanted to know what is commonly done when a person gets mentally and physically dependant on an antidepressant.

I was recently talked into a reassessment by my GP who told me that there are lots of new meds out there that are not addictive. Maybe you should ask your GP about what’s available where you are.

Antidepressants have extremely low addiction risk. Some people attribute
withdrawal syndrome when stopping an antidepressant as a sign of addiction. Thats not a very good measure of addiction. Drugs like xanax are tranquilizers not antidepressants. They have much greater addiction risk than antidepressants.

Amen to that! Ya - Xanax, Klonipin, Valium, Ativan . . . those are all tranquilizers - and they are very addictive and NEED TO BE TAPERED OFF OF to avoid dangerous w/d complications (such as seizures).

I've met many poly substance abusers who've said they'd choose getting off of heroin ANY DAY over suffering through a benzo w/d. Yikes!! I can't believe that doctors have prescribed these meds for patients to take on a daily basis for years at a time and then just suddenly decide that it'd be good for that patient to discontinue that med. I've heard of many doctors doing this and not bothering to help their patient TAPER OFF the medication!! OUTRAGEOUS! DANGEROUS! Potentially LETHAL! MAL-TREATMENT!
