Right now I am taking 30mg of adderall. I get these spikes of hypomania. That last only a hour. Feeling happy or paranoid along with the being hyper, impulse, sometimes talkative, and anger outburst. My mood swings from extreme mostly the anger. Then some days I am feeling normal. Doctors think I maybe bipolar. I don't get depression, just sudden energy

Anyways are there any medcation that treat mania that does NOT make you, gain weight, feel drugged, or out of it, and isn't neuroleptics drugs.

I have taken
prozac (made me have panic attacks)
zolft (zombie, dead feeling)
lexapro (felt drugged)
zyprexa / clonazepam (I was in the mental hospital doctors were just over medicated me)

I find only adderall seems to help with my spikes of mild mania. I don't want to start taking more against my doctor's order. And it really doesn't make any sense since adderall is a stimulant.

I've taken abilify in the past as a mood stabilizer and I noticed no weight gain or drugged feeling from that. I was on 10mg/day. I would still be on it if it weren't for the restlessness.

It depends on your body chemistry, but if you're bipolar or cyclothymic (a milder version), a mood stabilizer would even out the hypomanic spikes. I take 1000mg. Depakote which makes many people drowsy/sedated, but I really can't tell that I take it. In addition, I take 4 mg. Abilify and 90 mg. Adderall. I also take Xanax as needed for sleep and anxiety problems. Believe it or not, I do not feel drugged, I feel normal.

Insofar as mood stabilizers, a lot of people on the forum take Lamictal- I tried it and it didn't work for me, but many say it doesn't make them feel drugged. You could also try Depakote or another anti-convulsant. I would mention all of this to your doctor and see what he/she thinks about the situation.

Hang in there, finding the right meds can be tricky at times.
