I'm really lost right now and could desperatly use your help! It will all sound a little crazy but hopefully you all can help.

A lil history: I am a 21 year old female. I've been treated for manic depression though I have recently been diagnosed as having ADHD and depression. I guess the normal ADHD symptoms were seen as manias by my past doctor. Anyway. I was on Adderall and responded well. My doctor just switched me to Vyvanse about a month and a half ago.

I was doing well on this new medicine though I was very irritable which has become a problem. I thought that might pass. But now, things have gotten much worse. I've been having dreams (ok, this is going to sound NUTS!), where like things are telling me to kill myself. By things, I mean like people and like crazy looking action book villian looking things.. Its just very very unsettling.

I looked up side effects and apperantly hallucinations are a rare side effect. However, being niave, I'm not sure if dreams of this sort fall under hallucinations.

I boil it down to being a side effect of Vyvanse.. It is the only new medication on my script. The other one I am on (Lamictal), I have been on for about a year and never had this happen.

Can someone please help explain this to me? It scares me because these dreams are so convincing and make me seriously think about listening to them. I'm not crazy. I swear. But I feel crazy for even having these dreams. Please help?

Thank you.

call your doctor and talk to him about it right away.

Recurring dreams with the same theme is bothersome. I'd be a little concerned about it.
As to what it is, it sounds too much like amphetamine psycosis, which can happen in some people.

ME :D

I'm on lamictal and vyvanse as well. The only time I hallucinated is when I took my medicine twice accidently (I got distracted and didn't think I took it.) I later counted my pills and discovered I did infact take an extra 100 mgs. I was hearing things and seeing things out of the corner of my eyes. The dreams were very vivid that night as well. I remember writing this down in my journal. So it might be the combination of the two or just the mere fact that I/you have manic depression. There is a warning on the prescribing info that says: "New psychosis, mania, aggression, growth suppression, and visual disturbances have been associated with the use of stimulants. Use with caution in patients with a history of psychosis, seizures or EEG abnormalities, bipolar disorder, or depression. Growth monitoring is advised during prolonged treatment."

Having said all that... I didn't do well on adderall. You might want to try and see if it's a good idea to switch back since you did well on that.
