My biggest problem as far as being someone who's a hyperactive adder, is my inablility to "listen". Its weird that I dont find myself to be "zoning out" or lacking the ability to pay attention when people speak to me.

The simple fact is that my listening skills is what really messes me up all the time.

I will hear what a person is telling me word for word but I do not actually "process" the exact words the other person is saying.

Its almost like by "brain" is "distorting" the actual words and im "hallucinating" the words that I believe to be spoken to me and I actually interpret something totally different.

In an ideal situation, if all verbal directions given to me were actually in written format, I could assure that there would be no misunderstandings.

So...now that I've described the issues my question(s) are this:

Is there any kind "standardized" therapy for improving my issue???

What would be the quasi-terminology for this?

Are there any success stories out there of my fellow adders to whom have made BIG improvements that were noticed by others???

Anyone here have relative resources/website links for further support/research???

Please post your comments once have read this post....I dont care how silly or unimportant you may think your reply may be :p

OK, you asked us to post back...

I have a very hard time listening, too. At work, this can be a big problem. Three things I've done there:

1) Take notes and then share verbally or via email, to summarize what I think we said/agreed to do.

2) Be the official "scribe" at meetings. I am very good at taking down every word said. Then, I have notes to refer to when I have not digested those words, AND people love me b/c everybody hates being the scribe.

out there of my fellow adders to whom have made BIG improvements that were noticed by others???Contrary to test results, I lived most of my life thinking I had a hearing impairment. Medication makes listening as different as night and day and was the first thing I really noticed when starting medication.

If you dont mind me to ask, what meds are you currently taking???

At the moment I am taking 30mg of Adderall XR and 15mg of Lexipro for "balancing out" the "jitters" and "irrability" that comes from taking Adderall XR.

I take regular Ritalin 10 mg, three or four times a day.
