OK...so I have read here that you shouldn't have citric acid around pill time...then that you shouldn't have vitamin c. So which is it, or is it both?

TIA

I'd say both, not from any research, but most vit C comes from citrus fruit, so that's why I think that.

Anything that lowers your gastric pH levels (i.e. citric acid, soda) will reduce amphetamine effectiveness.

Vyvanse is immune to this. Vyvanse doesn't get converted to dextroamphetamine until the pill contents pass from the stomach into the small intestine (which is where digestion occurs). This is also why Vyvanse takes longer to kick-in vs regular amphetamines like Adderall or Dexedrine. The body automatically adjusts pH levels back to more balanced ranges at that point since the small intestine can't handle low pH levels.

So, this means we can drink our soda, fruit juice, whatever at anytime and not worry about it killing our Vyvanse.

JThat is GREAT to know! That makes my breakfast choices so much more interesting. I was asking because I have this "naked" protein drink that is taunting me. It looks delicious...but I haven't had it yet been able to drink it because I don't want to mess up my meds!

Since you seem knowledgeable on the subject, I was wondering if there is any reason that vyvanse would work better when taken with food or on an empty stomach. I’ve read peoples experiences on here that suggest benefits both ways. I’m still trying to figure out my optimal dosage and it has been hard for me -my experiences seem different day to day so it is difficult to isolate the 'variables' that are causing there fluctuations. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas:contacts" /><st1:GivenName w:st="on">TIA</st1:GivenName>

BTw...my "naked" drink is gross! It tastes like someone but chalk in a blender. :(

EZ...I've done it both ways, and I feel much better when I take my med with food. But that's just my experience...

EZ, I would try both ways. I work 3rd shift, so I sleep until 5 PM and then take a pill on an empty stomach, and eat around 9 or 10 PM before work. I believe it is ALOT more potent on an empty stomach than if I take it with food. I have taken it with food before, and it seems to still work, but not be as powerful.

Well it's always good to have some sort of a decent breakfast. While food (or acidity) has no real effect on Vyvnase's effectiveness, taking Vyvanse with a meal will slow down the rate it gets absorbed. This could tack on yet another hour or so to the already 'slow' kick-in period that Vyvanse has.

Since amphetamines by their very nature speed up the metabolic rate, not eating breakfast at all (which I do way too often) can cause problems with feeling crappy as the day goes on due to low blood sugar. I'm not expert but I just try to take my Vyvanse either before eating any breakfast or wait a while after eating to take it.

This link has some good info on ADHD and the importance of protein-based breakfast. This doctor does go along with Dr. Amen (the doctor that really pushes the SPECT imaging stuff) which is somewhat controversial in their methods of diagnosis and treatment strategies. I'm never one to shoot anyone down for any type of beliefs or opinions and while I really haven't bought into Dr. Amen's stuff some of the info on this Dr's website is pretty interesting to read.

Dextroamphetamine excretion (along with most amines) through urine is heightened by acids and reduced by bases also. It's not just absorption in the digestive system that is affected.

Taking unbuffered acids could certainly lower the duration for which the substance is circulating.
