( she said "multiple")

Many with ADD are smart but dont apear to be to those around them.
How I feel a lot of times, I'm smart but incapable of using it.
Thus I made my name :)

Virgo here.... hmmmmm

I never put much credence in Horoscopy (even though I'm a sixties kid....). I'm visionary but not very mystical -- my science/engineering training showing up here.

Birthdate clusters tend to reflect common experiences 9 months beforehand -- like all the "NY Blackout Babies" of the sixties.

Other common trends are March babies (June weddings) and September Babies (Happpppyyyy Noooo Yeeeeeeer!).

As far as AD/HD is concerned.....?

I would guess Hyper/Impulsive parents would have more children at *other* times than people who can stick to a schedule.

This is indeed food for thot........

But -- I'd like to see more responses before drawing a statistical conclusion from this survey (preferably twice as many or more).

Like vinceptor, I don't hold much with this stuff either - funny though, that there are 6 capricorns here (including me), but no Leos or Scorpios. But maybe that is not so surprising. Probablility is not always exactly common sense. You only need 23 people in a room before it becomes more likely than not that two have the same birthday.

Jonathan
08-25-03, 06:37 AM
Just realised, going back out of this page, that there are 6 birthday greetings on the current "General Talk" page, five of which, being before August 22nd (had to look it up to get the exact date) are to/for Leos - one of them is even called "lionlady"! (Hi, lionlady - is that where your alias comes from, if you don't mind my asking?) Bang goes that (in any case extremely shallow) hypothesis of mine.

Thanks for this brilliance of a probability.....I always heard the question in the form of "If there are 100 people in a room, what is the probability that two of then have have the same birthday"??

Looks like the probability is pretty good if you say that it only takes 23 people before there is a birthday match.....I mean there are 365 possible dates....Better probability than I always thought....:)

Scorpius here..........

I don't hold much for daily horoscopes that you get in newspapers.. internet etc.
but i do see a resembelenace
between many folk of the same star sign.

i am a scorpio, and most of my 'good' freinds are
aquaruis, haveing 7 of them,
next was libra with 3 friends
then taurus 4 and last Gemini,
but my best friends are Aqarius -female
and Gemini - male,

Ive noticed aquarians are particualrly
fussy clean people, who like boxes,
they would put boxes inside boxes if they had thier way
also they are very open minded, nature loving people,
who some times do not see past their own ways,

of course every one is individual and not the same.

6/9/63 I am Gemini, I love the word. I am not into my horrible scope, or asstrology but I think it's fun. I am as gemini as they come! My asstrological chart says I am capricorn moon and a leo rising. Which I have been told might be interpreted as Gemini being my sun sign is what I have supposedly acheived good ability in a previous life (communication), Capricorn moon sugest buisness sense or ability, and Leo is my quest for this lifetime which was told to me by the astrologer was to be a performer. Learn to perform as I was a closet musician in europe, yet a renown healer in a past life.
This is something I remember being told at least 15 years ago. I believe in everything and I believe in nothing. Ignorance is bliss.

My sun sign is Libra, on the cusp of virgo. Aquarius rising and Capricorn moon: triply indecisive, with a brooding disposition and naive ideals.

Hardly any water signs but for Scorpio in my chart, mostly air and fire- BOOM!

Steve- that's hilarious! With an Aquarius rising I'm sometimes more Aquarius than anything else- I wish I had a box for everything! And I WILL put boxes inside boxes. In fact, I've been trying to unpack since August and it's really hard for me to mess up my nice packing job and turn all my stuff back into the usual mess! Very fussy.
Those daily horoscopes are ridiculous. As a Libra they're always telling me to go and socialize or go to a cocktail party or something- what are those people thinking! I've done lots of reading on astrology in the past, and basically from what I understand, it will always be misleading to only follow the influences of the Sun sign; which pertains to much of people 'surface' traits, or at least how we interact with each other- supposedly. I see that there's truth in that, anyway. Okay stop typing already!

I'm glad I did a search for this, I was about to post the same poll :)

I'm not a big believer in general astrology, but I am somewhat of a believer in more exact astrology (I don't know a lot about it, but I believe it does have an influence on us). Hope that made sense!

My daughter is a Gemini, and I always joke that she does have two very distinct, different personalites. I mentioned this to a friend last night and he said he is too, and made a comment about Gemini's being very ADD prone. Just one of those things that going my mind wandering a hundered different directions, and was wondering what everyone's sign is :).

If sign influances this poll then I think it more likely effects who is voting. I have a brother who is a leo who I am fairly sure is ADD and we may get it from my father who is also a leo. I do find it amusing it was my vote that put capricorn in first place.

Perhaps the Gemini's are still deciding weather or not to post! I was arguing with my unstable split, personality, intilectual, two faced self for the longest time before I decided to contribute my vote for Gemini.

I had actually been looking for such a poll! I do not follow astrology or anything else for that matter realy - as someone on this thread said "I believe in everything and I believe in nothing"
Ooh I love that! Any way ..I too had been wondering if there is any sort of connection.

Based on all the Gemini's I know (body count 3, head count 6 or more!) They all have this playfull, kinda sillieness - all spell bad, seem to live a somewhat double life

I just forgot my thought or point if there was one -

I love that, "I'm off to go overanalyze something" That is definately my sign! I think it would be great to be able to overanalyze with a fellow gemini man in a relationship. Then if I was younger we could have overanalyzing children.

03-13-04, 11:40 AM
This thread raises something I've been thinkinabout this week.
When (socially) you don't fit, you look for explanations - astrology, psychology, anthropology, neurology, etc .... etc.
I used to attribute all my ADD characteristics to the ADD-type ones that supposedly characterise my Sun sign (undisclosed ... hehe), others to my English (maternal) lineage and yet others to my Afro-Caribbean (paternal) lineage.
But hey, guess what .... ALL the signs have some ADD characteristics, but it would be interesting to do a paper analysis of the "most ADD" signs.
Once I realised that many of my most neuro-atypical characteristics were ADD-attributable, I did far less wondering about the previously-blamed sources of them.
That said, the similarities manifested by those of like sign are very intriguing - but again, are we seeing too much into astrology ?

diesel
03-13-04, 11:57 AM
I love your analyisis... It is typical of the add way of thinking. If we extrapolate I bet there are ways of making anything we think of fit the theory we think is causing the very thoughts in the first place..

Make sence?

MRB
03-14-04, 01:28 AM
I don't think you're reading too much into it. When I was young (real young, like 9) I started studying astrology b/c I knew there was SOMETHING different about me (and I was a "good girl" who just couldn't organize her room 'cuz she was wilful and selfish - we didn't get many ADD diagnoses back then - and it wasn't so long ago either!). Long story short, I studied enough to get certified and am now wondering whether there is a correlation between Mercury-Uranus conjunctions (I have one and so do some other "interesting" people I know) - or some connection between Uranus and any of the other "personal" planets - and an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. (Uranus is a planet that in astropsychological analysis represents weird startling brilliance that looks quite out of place in the world around you. The opposite of normal.)

Forget the columns you read in the Post if you want the REAL astrology.

P.S. Sun in Virgo, Aquarius moon, Cancer rising, if anyone cares.

I was informed by a friend who gets to the nitty gritty who told me I had "two moons in the house of virgo and one in the house of Leo" She got this information based on the hour of the day I was born. Provided by Astrology.com

You don't know what everyone's complaining about -- the holidays were great, but so is the New Year. The targets you hit in January make up for whatever you miss about last year. By the 21st, you're in step with your neighbors, even if that means you've slowed down a little; consider what the group wants and what you're willing to give. From February 20th to March 7th, you're back on your fabulous fast track upwards. Then you can level off on a plateau of excellence for the rest of the winter.

Spring comes too soon, with some disorienting but not unpleasant results. Emotions sprout and blossom all over the place between March 24th and April 6th. Rivals show weakness on the 19th, encouraging you to step forward -- but instead of taking advantage, you propose getting along. This arrangement is good until it falls apart sometime between May 17th and 21st. While you're not out for revenge, you can't ignore that twinge of pleasure when confusion strikes everyone equally after June 10th. It's worth a little extra expense.

Ambivalence about Father's Day or summer puts you on a collision course with something special around June 29th -- this event is as benign or dangerous as you make it. Strange attitudes, desires and assorted weirdnesses pull at you from late July through mid-August. Your home or specialty is under attack, but in some ways you agree with it. Your struggle toward improvement pays off by August 23rd. Look forward to radical but meaningful shifts in early September -- then you'll have a week or so to appreciate what you've wrought.

September 23rd reminds you again that you don't live in a vacuum. The next few weeks challenge you to accept when you might not agree. By the end of October, you're more than ready to be back among friends. Starting November 8th, you review past triumphs and plan ways to improve on them. The seasonal festivities are always a convenient distraction, but you lock onto a personal project as December begins, joyously forcing your vision onto some unyielding medium. And don't worry, you'll have plenty of happy holiday time.

I think you chose it as you think it suits you as a guide and a connection to the spirit world.

Here's one list I found:

-----------------------------------
Ant - It is industrious.

Badger - Courage.

Bear - Watcher, guardian of the world, giver of great strength of body, courage and power of will.

Buffalo - Possesses great strength.

Cat - It is a good hunter and very independent.

Coyote - It is a crazy trickster bearing tidings of sacred msichief.

Crow - Justice.

I can't choose one, here's my spirit guide menagerie...
(BTW you can make up your own or change them as you wish)
My interpretation is that it's not so much who you are but which you think can help you. That should be compatible but maybe opposite or maybe matched depending if you need something different or just want to perfect something you have in a more spiritual way. If it's something you've got and are happy with, no need for an animal totem to help.

Ant - It is industrious.

Dolphin - Wise and happy, able to explore the great depths of emotions, friend to lovers of the sea.

Fish - Graceful.

Snake - Transformation.

Stag - Lord of the forest, masculine power of regeneration, giver of bounty, beauty and mystical signs.

Wolf - Pathfinder for the human spirit; heart of the wildness of the world. Knowledge.

Hey! I saw a site on that but of course now I can't find it. BUT! I do have a book!
Fencer, you are an otter according to my book. The book is called 'Totems' 'The Transformative Power of Your Personal Animal Totem.' I probably didn't quote that correctly.

Paul is right. I like your explanation! Fencer? Do you have any kind of animal you really can relate to? Do you decorate your living space with themes from this animal? Think of your childhood. Did you ever pretend you were a certain animal? That animal was probably your spiritual guide through a certain part of childhood.

I can remember when I was a little kid pretending I was a cougar. That lasted for years. That was my favorite animal since I first saw one. Now I find out that is my birth sign! I think though, that my totems, different from birth signs, are turtle, frog, and wolf. I have always loved frogs and turtles. Something about me reminds me of them. I always see wolves if I dream of animals. Oh, the deer too. I have reasons there, but it would take to long to explain.

But you can have several totems, but then you also have your Native American birth sign.

I’ll bet that’s the stuff that has the most potential, though. I wouldn’t know what to do if I hadn’t learned to absolutely trust the things that come out of the blue.

Every one of my best ten or twenty designs have come about like that. The pedestrian stuff (good enough in its own right) has never been as cool and perfectly appropriate.

It’s where we go to meet our ADD in its purest form, IM(NS)HO…

I don't think you're going to see a definite pattern with sun signs. Superficially one could guess that all the air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) would be prominent, but it's a pretty even spread. Stereotypically speaking, Air signs could be spacey or too intellectual. Earth people (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) could be too literal or "slow" thinkers. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) could be too rash or blinkered. Water people (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) could be so awash in emotions or dreams they can't think straight. (Not insulting people here, just laying down very very simple interps of the archetypes in this context.) When you break it down like that, any sun sign could be considered ADD. But sun signs won't cut it, there are so many other factors.

Elementally, if I had to look for an astrological pattern in the individual birth charts for a group like this, I'd look for conflicts between air and earth for ADD in general. The air and earth conflict just makes sense to me intuitively, but I don't have any data to back that up. Add in some fire signs or Aquarian energy for ADHD. Shake and stir.

Someone earlier said they had a clump of Virgo - I do too. It's something to look for - Virgo energy (earth sign) can represent an emphasis on mental activity and perfectionism, something that screams an involvement with ADDers.

If you're into that astrology thing, you know... :p

TheMikey

To be more pointed, the top signs listed (at the time of this post) are Aquarius(air), Pisces(water), then Gemini(air), Virgo(earth), and Leo(fire). 168 votes with 12 choices isn't exactly great statistical material, but it's all we've got. Except for those two air signs up there, you can see there isn't much of a pattern emerging, although I can't say I'm surprised Aquarius and Pisces are at the top.

Because the sample is self-selected, there's already an inherent bias. There's no way to tell if any correlation is a real statistical phenomenon or a function of the bias.

There is no "typical" anything. Astrology is a complex system and covers 12 houses. For example I am a Pisces SUN, Gemini rising, Libra Moon...not a "Pisces". In other words, simple sun-sign astrology is laughable. Sun-signs are the tip of a rather large iceberg....

I'm gonna say though, that my SUN sign, is in Aries, which has the supposed traits of starting projects not finishing them, is 'gabby', highly curious, and considered 'fearless' (which isn't always considered a 'good' thing by some) lol !

Could be 'observed' as an ADD/HD thang...if ya wanna look it that way.

I love astrology, so I also agree with you, that the sun sign is just one facet in one's 'astrological' profile.
Which is why I never read my 'horoscope' in the paper, since it only covers one's sun-sign 'facet'.

I was also told the overfocusing thing was due to my scorpio ascendent...

Now, I'm happy to take meds for treating being and Aries with a scorpio ascendent... lol

April 5th, 9:45pm...

Traditional Aries (http://www.astrology-online.com/#) Traits

Adventurous and energetic
Pioneering and courageous
Enthusiastic and confident
Dynamic and quick-witted

On the dark side...

Selfish and quick-tempered
Impulsive and impatient
Foolhardy and daredevil

The Sun blazed in dynamic Aries, a fire sign (http://www.astrology-online.com/#) on your birthday. The Sun in astrology stands for your inner nature, the light of your essential character. Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac (http://www.astrologycom.com/zodiac.html), is a masculine (http://www.astrologycom.com/masc.html) sign ruled by the warrior planet Mars (http://www.astrologycom.com/mars.html), whose motto must be "Crash through, or crash!". A cardinal (http://www.astrologycom.com/elements.html) (creative and inventive) sign, Aries, the Ram, governs leadership and initiative. Aries people are bold and self-confident, although they tend to be overly impulsive.

The Sun, the ruler of our inner nature, is very well placed in Aries, the sign of its exaltation (http://www.astrologycom.com/exalt.html). This energy is very attractive, even compelling, and few can resist being carried along in the jetstream. Ariens are always overflowing with ideas, schemes and plans to conquer the world, for a well-aspected sun in Aries radiates power and vitality. Many a moth has been burned in its flame! Life, of course, is one long party (which the more mothlike among us may find a just little wearing...).

Flair and Originality

Ariens are great organisers, full of flair and originality, although usually lacking discipline and the capacity for prolonged effort (minions must be found to do the slog work!). You are intuitive and articulate, with the capacity to inspire others, especially in projects which have a clear outcome and do not require a long lead-time.

You have masses of energy and courage and will rush in where angels fear to tread, for the Arien ego can be rather overbearing. Undue optimism, or impatience and desire for self-aggrandisement can result in wasted effort or even severe setbacks and disappointment.

A Determined Fighter

The emblem for Aries is the Ram, a determined fighter and a powerful adversary, with a strong urge to express himself over the widest possible field of endeavour. Is the grass greener on the other side of the hill? Of course it is, isn't it, Aries?

Creative Aries, a cardinal sign, loves to be the leader and can organise fantastic and impressive ventures. Unfortunately, despite your desire to be the front-runner in all you do, sometimes you do get bored with the whole affair and can just wander off, or sit back and allow the lesser folk to have their way. This can see the whole house of cards collapsing, but happily your enthusiam is easily roused and when you set your mind to it you can inspire others to stick to those essential jobs that sometimes seem no more than the merest details to the noble Ram. You see, painful as this may seem, you really need the team as much as the team needs you!

Aries Rules the Head

Aries rules the head, brain and eyes, so people with Aries active in their charts are subject to head injury, headaches, general problems with organs in the head and fevers (although the nose is ruled by Scorpio). You are all extremists and for this reason can fall prey to stress-related ailments and mental problems. However, although you can be highly-strung, your great fund of energy enables you to survive where other less exuberant folks might succumb.

Your colours are red and white. Aries rules metallic iron and your birthstone (http://www.astrologycom.com/gemstones.html) is the brilliant diamond, symbolising clear strength, purified under pressure. Nature creates the precious diamond out of crumbly, coal-black carbon, by applying intense heat and pressure for a very long time. Flowers for Aries include the red poppy, geraniums, honeysuckle and hollyhocks.

Technically, you would also have to factor in where the person is born as well. That would change the house placements slightly or significantly depending on the distance ;). That's why I mentioned that I didn't know the birth location... ;-)

But there are chances that PeaBody was born in Canada, as he lives in Ontario, just as he could also be from Siberia, who knows? But if he was born in North York or close thereto, at the time and date he mentioned (with the birth year mentioned in his profile), he would be an Aries with a Scorpio ascendant (9 degrees 45 to be exact, 11 degrees for me), as well as Mercury in Aries, Venus in Taurus, Neptune in Sagitarius and Pluto in Libra. So lots of similarities... Clearly, I'm looking for a little brother! lol

But like you said, house placement is necessarily different, as well as the aspects between the planets, etc. It's still cool to know that there is another Canadian ADDer with a similar astrological chart as mine, even if it doesn't mean anything more than just that (for instance, we probably don't react the same way to the same medication and our ADHD symptoms can be different as well). It's just cool for the sake of being cool...

On the same note, I always liked that four of the most important people in my life (my mother, my father, my father-in-law and my best friend) were all born on the same date (all Aries, BTW)... It doesn't mean anything, it's not a sign of anything, it's a pure coincidence... but I find that fact pretty cool (and I always remember their birthday, something I'm usually not good at) ;-)

Clearly, I prefer to hyperfocus on similarities rather than on differences... :D

That will make me change career orientation on a whim, so much so that my husband suggested I should have some kind of chameleon career and decide what I do for a living each day, according to how a feel upon waking up... So he hired me as his life coach/errand runner/personal assistant (i.e. I'm now a part-time housewife, so I get to be my own boss... lol).

Because of the boredom/impulsiveness combo I also tend to make new "best" friends very fast with very outgoing (loud) and lively (hyper) people, only to eventually abandon them when I realize how badly they get on my nerves and how overwhelmed I feel around them...

Therefore, I conclude that only purpose of my impulsiveness is to distract me from boredom, and that doesn't last very long... lol
