Are there any articles explaining why people with ADHD are more prone to get addicted to the internet, TV, video games, etc...
I'm not looking for articles on addiction to drugs or medication
i found this (http://www.adult-child-add-adhd.com/categories/child/adhd-and-tv.php) little something, it mentions the dopamine connection and references Dr Amen and Nature Magazine, but i couldn't find the original article in a quick google.
Nice find MK.
Thanks, beats workin' :D I just need to find a way to bill for that time.

Yeah, Dr. Amen gets into it more in his book Healing ADD.
I had an internet addiction for years and his explanation finally helped me understand why. Same reasons why I'd watch an exciting clip repeatedly.

I didn't know there was a connection. One of the reasons I love PCs and the Internet so much, apart from insatiable and sporadic curiosity, is that I can have many windows up at once, so when my attention to one thing shuts down (every fourth sentence or so on average) I can easily switch to something else and return when I feel like it. That way I read or type in total, in little bitesized chunks, the amount that I want, without wasting time having to stop altogether to daydream or do something else. Instead of having to read or type things in one go I can dip in and out of many things so the 'productivity' isn't interrupted by having to take a break. I can't think of any other situation in which this is the case, so it's extremely appealing compared with the linear offline world. Anyone else find this? Also, are gaming and Internet use true examples of hyperfocus, and indeed does it really exist, if your attention span is still four sentences long or the games you like involve a new activity every several seconds? Maybe that's a question for another thread...
I believe for me it's because I am in control, the unlimited possibilities, and overall I am comfortable with it compared to the rest of the world. I get to be in my own little world, do my own thing, and not be judged or watched.
Interesting you say your attention span is about 4 sentences, mines is every 3 sentences... atleast my thoughts by themselves,if I try to listen to them.
So would taking stimulants change this? i.e. Would taking stimulants cut down ALL symptoms of ADHD, including the tendency to get addicted to the things mentioned above?
