View Full Version : any artists?
junetown 07-31-08, 03:35 PM i never understood why i was compelled to do the kind of art that i create, until i discovered the world of ADD.
my art is mostly abstract, usually involving dividing my art into squares, and the way i see them is "as seperate pieces of art" like pretty little things to look at.
there's also a collective (hidden and personal) idea behind some of them, being that really, we are only unique in that we all have a unique mix of common traits. much like my art, where once divided - no areas look the same, but are all made up of the same things, and as a bigger picture, they all make up the whole of something when united.
i also sometimes do an opposite approach, where i will take squares and start mixing them.
does that make sense? lol
how has AD/HD impacted your style of art?

I have always been very creative and my artwork clearly represents my ADD mind. My art is all over the place (ha literally!)... I usually use numerous mediums in one piece. I do however have a common 'theme' which is spirals and a lot of 'noise' (all over the place... lots of different things going on in the art piece) <----- hey! that represents everything going on in my head! :D I have a hard time with being a perfectionist about my art. I find that interesting, seeing that my art sometimes appears to be sooo outside of the box. It's obvious that my ADHD as a huge impact on my style and contributes to my originality! :D

It impacts me because I didnt finish anything I ever started, after hundreds of throwaway projects I vowed to finally finish something and would spend 6 years working on the same project every single day perfecting it more and more. I only intended to spend a month on it, but it was a 3d project so you could never run out of canvas, it was always "almost done". I finally gave up in disgust because it had taken so long that I felt even if I did finish it would no longer be relevant.
since i have little patience, i pretty much only do what can be done in one sitting... which usually only leaves time for things like my little self-portrait avatar.
qhcowgirl 07-31-08, 07:11 PM I do western art...
My adhd daughter.... quite artistic. She has some really great artwork that she did in school.
I do fantasy art! There's all kinds of crazy worlds and creatures in my head : D
Right here. Abstract and minimalism are my themes. Bright colors too. Sometimes messy if its hand work. Sometimes clean if its photo.
I used to think that all artist have ADD. They dont. And I used to think ADD only affected artists. It doesnt. However i think the instance of it in artist is very high.
I personally think it has to do with the organic, unstructured way we think.
LETS SEE SOME WORK PEOPLE!

Mindspin 08-01-08, 03:40 AM I was going to ask does Digital art count, apparently so.
I love art too...but like many of us I don't finish things...I find that it is hard for me to start...I start...it looks like a big mess and I get overwhlemed. I try to break things down now and go almost to a pointilism type of thing where everything becomes really small and percise...then I go into to hyperfocus which is wonderful!
I also have been getting into computer generated art. I have developed a couple of websites and discovered that at my one job they have Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw. I am asking for Corel Draw for my birhtday (would love illustrator but it's REALLY expensive).

o0starla0o 08-01-08, 11:15 AM I am an artist. I focus mostly on abstract art. I love using negative space too so I'm not sure what category that falls into, but there you go.
For me, it's too hard to try and tease out what is simply me and what is the influence of my ADHD. I think the biggest influence that it has had on me is that I have many many unfinished projects (as others have already said). I'm in the process of trying to finish them :D

I want a Negative Art self portrait, that is small enough to fit here, And Paint Shop Pro 12 just won't do it.....
So Ive "borrowed" a copy of PS elements 5 to give it a try with that.
junetown 08-01-08, 02:31 PM i do digital abstract only! ^^
i used to draw comic characters and superheroes i'd make up all the time, but i didn't have the patience to ever learn to draw people correctly, and i got nowhere after years and years of drawing. well, until i started replicating famous comic artists. but then i lost interest.
