Hi guys,
I have been taking propranolol for presentations anxiety for a year now and i'm actually preparing to talk to my doctor about getting prescriptiosn for ADHD. I was wondering if anyone here has been taking these two combinations of drugs or know if these two drugs can cohabitate. I am curious to know of the two working together well and the side effects. I would like to know a bit before I go see my doctor. I'm interested in methyphenidate (stimulants) like Daytrana.

Thanks guys. David

I've tried propranolol and methylphenidate together for a few weeks, and havent really seen any side effects from the combination.
Although the stimulants can increase your blood pressure, resting heart rate and possibly anxiety, which is what the beta blockers should lower.

Only thing I've noticed is concerning my running.
With no drugs I can do a 7-mile run at about 85% of my Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) (= your max heart rate minus your resting heart rate).

With methylphenidate/Dexamphetamine I can run a bit faster and I can push myself more, to about 90-93% (!) of my HRR.

With stimulants AND propranolol I run at about 70% (!!) of my HRR, and I run a LOT slower. It's like running in mud.

So for me the propranolol totally negates the effect of the stimulants and more. It's possible that this effect goes away with time as you get used to the drug, which you might already be.

Q+A: Is it okay to run while taking beta-blockers?:

Thanks for the input. I noticed that too when I exercised. Sometimes after excercising really hard my resting heart beat will increase from 60 to like 80-90 bpm for the next several days. Then it goes down. Thanks for sharing your experience about that.
