Lately it seems like I am hooked on Stimulants, mainly OTC type the one similar to ephedra before ephedra was banned. I am talking about Jetfuel, ALRI Venom Hyperdrive (google these two and see the ingredients). What is worse ( I don't know why I do this) is that I take this along with Vyvanase and Prozac. Also other types of supplements.

So how bad is this really. Sometimes, I feel slightly hypomanic, other times sort of agressive mania, you know when things don't go your way. Don't even want to discuss spending money or the amount of credit card debt I have gotten into.

I also tend to get into stimulant addiction pretty badly, I can get euphoric effects from things like caffeine (or at least I used to, and that lasted for a few years before tolerance really set in.) Unlike most people, I tend to use non-prescription stimulants for the effects (especially mood lift) rather than just to "keep it going."

For me however anything with ephedra or anything ephedra-like (including sudafed) is to be avoided. I tried both the synthetic (ephedrine in pill form) and the herbal ephedra and get INSTANT panic attacks with both of them, and it is extremely unpleasant. Ritalin gave me similar symptoms except it was more like a paranoid psychosis.

I can't tell whether it's my anxiety disorder, simply having a sensitive peripheral nervous system, or (as yet, unexplored) a possible mood disorder.

As for how bad it is to take these multi-ingredient supplement stims with pharams, I can't say; however I have been on Paxil for many years and generally don't have a problem with excess caffeine intake.

St. John’s Wort (Hypericum Perforatum)

St. John’s Wort has gained in popularity over the last several years as a “natural antidepressant.” Hypericin, Hyperforin, and Adhyperforin are the active derivatives that give St. John’s Wort its antidepressive action. It has been shown to be a Natural Reuptake Inhibitor, which means that it has positive effects on the availability of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine. These control and stabilize mood, warding off the symptoms of depression.

SAM-e (S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine)

SAM-e is a natural mood-enhancing chemical produced in the body. Supplementing the diet with SAM-e can increase levels of this chemical as well as the production of important mood stabilizing neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.

Vitamin B Complex

B-vitamins are essential for emotional health. They also increase energy, fighting the fatigue that often comes with depression. They have positive effects on cell communication in the brain and support a healthy central nervous system.

Bacopa (Bacopa Monniera)

Depression often interrupts our ability to concentrate, obtain mental clarity and make decisions. The Bacosides, Alkaloids, and Glycosides in Bacopa support brain functions including concentration, memory, focus and mental endurance.

Valerian Root (Valerina Officinalis)

One of the symptoms of depression is sleep difficulty. Valerian Root is a mild sedative that can alleviate sleep difficulty. Valerian Root soothes the nerves to reduce nervous tension and stabilize mood for a healthy emotional balance.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)

This phytochemical, derived from the seeds of Griffonia Simplicifolia, is a precursor to the production of serotonin. It controls mood balance and can counter the effects of depression on appetite and sleep.

When using herbal supplements and vitamins to support a positive mood balance, it is also important to practice healthy lifestyle habits and emotional coping mechanisms. Used as a part of an overall wellness plan, these herbs and vitamins can help you achieve relief from certain symptoms of mild to moderate depression, leaving you with a sense of overall well-being.

It was a challange for me but I cut loose of all the ephedra stuff. I got scared when x told me about the effects on the heart. What is working really well for me is walking everyday. I am bipolar and have to deal with the manic while not falling into depression. Taking a highdose of lamictal to handle the manic episodes while walking to deal with the depression is a great combo for me.
