I was diagnosed with ADD-I over 2 years ago. Since then, I had a baby and had to go off meds. We hadn't found the right ones anyway before that happened. I now have to find a new doctor for the ADD but I am also having major sleep issues. I don't know which one I should address first or where to turn.

My sleep issues are affecting my life more than my ADD at this point. I have to get up in the morning to get my kids off to school and there have been days that they didn't go to school because of it. At night, it takes me about an hour to go to sleep and that is even when I am totally exhausted. I then wake 4-5 times a night. In the morning, I have been known to turn off alarm clocks and go back to bed even when they are clear across the room. When I don't have to get up, I can easily sleep 12 hours at a time.

I have been given sleeping meds to help me go to sleep and stay asleep but I had the same trouble falling asleep (an hour or more) and then couldn't function in the morning because I felt like the meds were still putting me to sleep.

I'm getting desperate. I'm tired of my husband complaining that all I do is sleep and I'm tired of feeling like a drug abuser trying to catch a high from getting enough sleep.

So where do I start? Who do I talk to? I'm at a total loss.

Hi Five! Are you on meds right now? How long have you been on them? Have you had a sleep test done? Any medication has the potential to affect sleep, especially amphetamines or anti-depressants but waking up so often and being so tired during the day merits at least a study to rule out sleep apnea. You can ask your doctor to refer you to a sleep specialist.

Lunesta was amazing for me! I absolutely loved it, the one drawback is it leaves a metallic taste in your mouth. I literally could not sleep before starting it. together with my depression and anxiety I would turn off the TV, turn off the lights, put on sound machine, and the moment the tv was powered down the moment my head would be flooded with every thought imaginable. I would lie there for about an hour and then just give up on sleeping and end up going to bed hours later. It was almost as if i had my days and nights mixed up.

The first time i look lunesta, i drifted off to sleep in no time. The next morning I woke up SO REFRESHED. I have NEVER had such a good nights sleep, instead of being sluggish the next day as you may think since its a hypnotic, it was the opposite. I thought my insomnia was mainly a problem at night.... it affects your body all throughout the day.

Unfortunately, my insurance company considers Lunesta as a non-prefered drug in the highest category of the pricing tier (40$).... The generic ambien is only 10$ and AmbienCR prefered at $25 dollars a month, almost half price. The AmbienCR is not the same at all, Lunesta made me drift off to sleep fast, sleep well, and wake refreshed. AmbienCR makes you feel drugged. I would definately research it first. And what's shocking the people who actually intentionally abuse the ambien for recreational purposes, usually only take 1 pill, which is the doctor recommended dose (IR 10mg / 12.5mg CR)

I highly suggest you try a medication because I think you would be suprised with how fast you fall asleep, the quality of your sleep, decrease in the number of times you wake up during the night, and most importantly how refreshed you feel in the AM. Personally, Lunesta was amazing, no drug like effects and i fell asleep a lot faster, and got a lot higher quality of sleep with it. I would give it a try if i were you. They have a free 7 night trial coupon to turn in with your script so if you dont like it, no loss! goodluck
