Hi, I have been on strattera now for about 1 and a half months now. At the last visit, the doc said that I could try taking the strattera either morning or night, my choice. after about a month or so of taking it at bedtime, I am trying it in the morning.

I think i have experienced some major drowsiness, but I don't know cause my schedule is completely messed up and any drowsiness I have could easily be attributed to lack of sleep. I am going to keep trying taking it in the morning for about a week more to give it a good honest shot.

I was just wondering when you people take your strattera? Do you find it better in the morning or night? If you got the choice, why do you take it when you do?

Any input would be great. Thank you for your anticipated participation.

I've been taking Strattera for four years. Until May of this years I have always taken it in the morning. I also metabolize the drug quickly, which is different from many others who find that it builds up and remains constant at all times.

I have also found that over the years it has become less effective, or at least effective for shorter periods of time. I took 60mgs for about 2 years, always in the morning. Eventually I could feel it wearing off in the afternoon.

Another 60 mg was prescribed. I too one 1st thing in the am, and another at about 2pm.

Then I could feel it wearing off in the late evening, which would send my body and mind back into turbo drive. Trazadone was prescribed for evenings that I could not sleep.

Come to this April when I could feel the effects of the Strattera wearing off within 4 hours after each 60mgs.

Now we've been trying 150mg Effexor in addition to the 120mg Strat. At first, I took Strat at 7am and noon, followed by the Effexor around 4-5 pm. This made me feel like a zombie in the evening. So I switched the Effexor to the morning, followed by Strat at noon and 5.

It's been "okay" but now there are side-effects from the Effexor that are not going to be tolerable, so this is soon going to change.

Not sure I answered your question.

The few times I did take the Strat in the evenings or before bed, I would have very vivid dreams, and restless sleep.

When the Strat was working full-time, and I hadn't been burning through it so quickly, I found taking in the mornings was best for me.

I had had no "lazy" side-effects during the day, but I wasn't jumping up and down without reason either. I could also focus well.

I've liked Starttera, many haven't. Good luck with it.

I usually take it at night and enjoy the recreational properties of it and don't have to deal with the drowsiness the next day. Although drowsiness seems to be a thing of the past. Its actually starting to stimulate me. Still no improvement to my concentration though:confused:

Its the middle of the night now and I'm feeling the full effects and couldn't be better. The weird thing is I'm sick at the moment and I was tired as hell and feeling like **** an hour ago now I feel good. It definitely has psychoactive effects this drug.

One insane side effect this drug has is I seem to sleep with one eye open. I sleep all the way through the night but somehow I keep track of everything thats going on in the house. I know when people are coming in and out the door, I know when people are walking around the house, I even hear whole conversations and remember them when I wake up the next day.

Ok I experimented with 1 day of taking it @ night (I know, I know...) and it didn't bring up as much fatigue as taking it in the morning but the effect of it was a bit less than taking it in the morning. My main problem with Strattera atm is fatigue. Taking it in the morning /w food, I'm great until around 1pm or so then I'm tired as I want to sleep so I need caffeine to overcome that challenge. I wasn't that much of a caffeine drinker before so I'm rapidly becoming one (I took a break of a few months...). Only thing I need to do is stop taking naps (1-2 hours in the afternoon) to get ready for school as I can't do that during school as I can during home this last week.

maybe try getting your doctor to switch your dose from once a day to twice a day so the medication doesn't wear off? at least it wears off for me also. i had my doctor switch it to twice a day for me. maybe that will help.
