thanks I really appreciate the feedback andf replies. Can anyone comment on weight gain potential on Depoke (sp?) as opposed Lithium??

I gained weight on Lithium. My son did not gain weight on Depakote. I don't think that's very scientific but I do know everyone is different. Sorry I can't be of more help. The docs will probably tell you that both meds will cause weight gain- but not in everyone.

I never have been on lithium though I know many who have, I was on depekote. I blew up like a balloon, but I had alsop quit smoking at the same time

oh no! although I do not have to quit smoking...boy...i'm worried about the weight gain...

Well talk with your doctor and discuss with him your concerns seriously. And ya know, many dont gain weight at all, i even know one who lost on depekote

thanks so much. besides the weight have your depressions dimished on this med? I know I suffer much much more from the deptressive side, some of the catogory "hypomania", but not so much in the seriously manic side

It did help alot. The reasosn I switched was the weight gain and I felt it wasnt doing as well as another might do FOR ME. I say for me because our chemistrys are so different , each of us, so try not to worry too too much ok honey? :) Chin up, its a good med.
