I'm looking for a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist in Minneapolis (preferably west/southwest Minneapolis) who has experience treating adult ADHD. Any recommendations?

I'm particularly close to the Associated Clinic of Psychology and the Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park, so if you know of docs at either of those, extra super.

Oh, and while I'm on the topic, has anyone heard of the Center for Adult ADHD on Lake Street? Are they legit? They're Web site looks sort of sketchy and incomplete. http://centerforadultadhd.com/http://i.ixnp.com/images/v3.44.1/t.gif (http://centerforadultadhd.com/)

You can try Illuminate (http://www.illuminatecenter.com/) in St Paul. They're about the only dedicated adhd center I found in the metro

I too just moved to Maple Grove, MN and after having lived here for 12 weeks still have had no luck getting a Dr to prescribe and treat myself and the ADHD that comes with me.. The Center for ADHD is a joke IMO.. Good luck with that. Can anybody lead me in the right direction please??

There is counseling service with neurotherapy in St. Louis Park. They teach people to change their own blood flow the way stimulants do and to get symptoms down to more of a learning style.

It's address is www.wix.com/peterjasonmeilahn/ffs

Another is the Neurotherapy Institute, but they do not accept insurance like the above clinic.

Peace.

I need to clarify the above;

When I said above that EEG biofeedback (a.k.a. neurofeedback) teaches people to regulate their brain in the same way stimulants do, I meant that it does it by the person keeping a certain amount of blood flow in needed parts of the brain. It doesn't use medication.

This is a natural approach to do what stimulants do with medicine and neurofeedback is as effective as stimulants.

I know of three places that do EEG.

They all seem to do it from the perspective that people are holistic beings that have their own style that just needs to be brought into a healthy control....

Franklin Family Services: www.wix.com/peterjasonmeilahn/ffs (http://www.wix.com/peterjasonmeilahn/ffs) ;they accept insurance and are new with advanced game and movie interactions linked to innovative research he heading and directing for new methods of EEG for treating attention and emotional aspects with fun and interesting virtual reality environments.

Minnesota Neurotherapy Institute: www.neurofeedback-institute.com (http://www.neurofeedback-institute.com) ;he doesn't accept insurance but is a leading teacher in the field and helped found New Visions Charter School

John Nash: www.qeeg.com (http://www.qeeg.com) ; They accept insurance and he is the former head of the International Society of Neuronal Regulation.

I believe the Center for Adult ADHD is real. I heard about them in a brouchere for a workshop. The founder is a presenter. I may give them a call. My ADHD was diagnosed at Park Nicollet, so you could start there.
If you are looking for support in dealing with your ADHD - LDA Minnesota has a wonderful support group for ADHD Adults.

The psychiatric group in St. Louis Park, MN (right next to Minneapolis) called West End Consultation Group has ADHD specialists. I am seeing a psychiatrist there and have been very pleased with my care.
