I've been on Adderall for over 2 weeks now. Before starting Adderall my resting heart rate was 80 bpm. Now in the morning even before I take the Adderall pill my heart rate is 100 bpm and while on Adderall goes up to 130 bpm as a resting rate. How serious is this? Should I be concerned about this?

You were concerned enough to post it here. I would suggest you call your doctor and get his/her opinion. Can you attribute your increased heart rate to anything else? It could be so many things. Without knowing your history and possible other situations, it's hard to say.

In my own situation, yes that would be a concern and I'd call my doctor.

130 is bad but before you assume it's that actual speed perhaps you should ask to visit your doctor and have him or her witness your increased heart rate while on it. If you're not used to the PNS stimulation adderall can put on the body sometimes you will think your heart rate is faster than what it really is. I also wouldn't trust counting your pulse over a 10 second time span then multiplying by 6 either since obviously you could miscount. Also consider do you have a family history of Cardiovascular problems, if you do you should tell your doctor and probably see him ASAP.

I can't attribute the increased heart rate to anything else. I'm pretty sure it's the Adderall. I plan to contact my doctor but she wouldn't be in until Tuesday. I do need to get some work done today and am wondering if it's safe for me to take it today.

Well I used a home blood pressure monitor to get my heartbeat rate. I tested it many many times over to see if it's consistent and it seems to be so. In the 125-130 beats per minute range. Today I haven't taken my Adderall yet and it's at 100 beats right now which is still higher than it was before I ever took Adderall.

Remember, Adderall takes a few weeks to a few months to really level out in your body and it is a stimulant. I have 3 kids of different ages on it for over 7 years, it has been a total Godsend for them and the family and their hearts are all normal and healthy. I would definitely talk to your doctor, but actual problems are not common.

Well it is a stimulant - so I mean, elevated heart rate is not out of the ordinary. Just give it a few weeks for your body to adjust.

I have EXACTLY the same symptoms. My resting pulse is 100 and with adderall or caffeine it is 135 and when I am exercising, it is not uncommon to see 145. I take 20mg/day and I am in my forties.

I was also feeling a slight tightness in my chest.

I was concerned and I went to the cardiologist; did the whole stress test routine and found that my heart is healthy, strong and in good shape.

He asked me to take Topamax and told me that that it will not reduce the heart rate but it will prevent it from going very high. I tried that for a couple of days but didn't like the way it made me feel. I talked to the Cardiologist again and he confirmed that I don't really need it.

So, I still exercise few times a week but don't let my heart beat go beyond 150. The feeling of slight tightness in my chest is due to adderall and I am not concerned about it.

This is not to say that you shouldn't have your ticker checked out. Just providing one more data point.
