<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> Has anybody experienced the same: I had good reults with generic Adderall (3 x 5mg per day) both in terms of hyperactivity and focus, however Adderall XR (15mg) gave me depression as a side affect in the afternoons, which improved somewhat in the evenings. My doc upgraded me to Adderall XR (20mg), as he thought I am not getting enough of it, but the depressive symptoms worsened (sadness without any external reason, lack of motivations, desire to isolate myself) and became intolerable. I am back to the generic Adderall and no depressive symptoms anymore. <o></o>

Any thoughts on this?

Should I try Dexedrine instead of Adderall?

I am brand new to ADHD medication and was recently diagnosed (F, 29 years old).

Thanks very much for your input.

Hello! Glad you are here. I am sure you will find some help in the forums here.

It's funny, some folks have great results with XR, and others simply do not do well on it.

My doc moved me from 10 mg IR 2x a day to 20 mg every AM, and after 4 hours I felt like I was unmedicated. I had some sadness, but mostly irrritability and fidgeting (around hour 4) which then got better after about an hour. The second half, though, never felt as good as the first half did. I went back to IR, and have found it to be better for me.

My gut reaction is, if the IR worked for you, then changing meds might not be necessary. Fiddling around to tweak your dose of IR or XR could really help. Some people have found that XR with an IR "boost" can help them, especially as the dose of XR wears off. That always scared me a bit, though, so I never asked about trying it.

This is my opinion based on personal experience and what I have read on here, I am not trying to prescribe or tell your doc or you what to do. But hopefully it gives you food for thought, and you can discuss your options with your doctor.

Let us know what you think and how it goes!
