Every time I hear about adhd pills, I always hear how much weight people lose. But I have read tons and tons of people's experiences on these meds, and the majority has not lost that much. I hear like 10 pounds in a few months which isn't a lot at all, or 5 pounds etc. I have never been on them but I am going on them really really soon. I don't get how these pills can be known for weight loss, but in reality doesn't make you lose that much. They even talk about it in the media as a drug that can cause major weight loss and the stories I have heard contradict that. So I don't know what to believe......

If you abuse it, you will lose a ton of weight, for sure. At normal doses you might lose some weight but it's not likely to be something that's a genuine problem for most people. I think I lost 20 pounds on wellbutrin,a nd so far that seems to have more effect on weight than adderal does - it definitely affects appetite, but I am not on it 24 hours a day.
my friend lost 20 pounds in one month!!! of course she gained it all right back

I've only been on adderall for 4 days and I can tell I've lost weight! My appetite is almost completely gone. On day 1, it was 9:30PM before I realized that I hadn't eaten anything yet! I am now trying to make a conscious effort to eat every meal even though I don't feel like it. I only weigh 115 pounds so I don't really want to loose weight!
I have lost a little under 20 pounds since May. I was always slim as a child and teen, and only got heavier when I got to grad school and had to sit a lot. So, on a 5'8 1/2" frame, from 182 to 164.5 is not bad, and I would not mind more!
The meds affect everyone differently. I have reduced appetite on 12.5 2x a day, and a friend of mine gets positively nauseated by the thought of food on 5 mg 4x a day. If you make eating part of your routine, it gets a little easier to remember to eat. I feel so focused on things that eating is the last thing from my mind! It does make it easier, though, to go for the salad bar or something like that. I still love my pizza and fast food treats, but they are easier to ignore now. I also gave up soda due to the citric acid content, and I think a lot of my weight loss has to do with those factors.

I'm 24 years old, 5'9, and weigh 128. I take 20mg of adderall a day. Yes, it suppresses my appetite, but I've found that come 5pm I'm eating like a horse. After being on adderall for 4+ years, I've learned to eat small things throughout the day. Now I'm able to eat while on my adderall without really trying. I even gained 2 pounds last month. I also exercise 3-5 times a week. Exercise and proper nutrition are very important! Do not take adderall to lose weight! Good luck!

There's good reason you feel confused: the story is confusing. First of all, not everyone experiences appetite suppression on the stims. It may be that about half of the people do so. Well, if half experience this, then the other half don't. So you're going to read many who say yes and many who say no. That's the source of your contradictory information.
Also, some of those who experience appetite suppression on one drug (like I did on adderall XR), later switch to a different drug (I switched to Concerta) and the overall effectiveness seems better, but the appetite suppression is gone.
To add another element: some people experience appetite suppression (a side effect) for say 6 months. But then their body adjusts to the med, pushes back against it, and the appetite suppression wanes. Their old appetite returns.
Bottom line: we can't tell you how it will affect you. Everyone's body is different. And any one individual may experience different effects at different times.
