I am going into my primary to get my first prescription for Adderall and I was just curious about the pharmacy side of it. I have an expired drivers license and I was curious if you guys think that would be a problem getting it filled? I am a little worried about this, I can go get my license renewed but I LOVE to Procrastinate...... Go figure... It's also going to cost me 100 bucks and I don't want to if I don't have to.

I can't recall ever showing my license when filling a prescription. I just sign for it.

Buying pseudoephedrine (decongestant)? .. sure, they want your license, blood samples, address, first born, stool samples....

Honestly though, i can't imagine why it would be an issue, since it's an identification that uses your picture to match your signature... unless you've had your face changed or now write with the other hand, the expiration date is irrelevant in this case because you don't have to get tested regularly to prove you're still capable of handling a pen. A car, yes. not a pen.

**edited to add: don't mention it. unless they specifically ask to see your license then don't even bring it up. if the date is pointed out, simply mention that the picture and signature are all they need for verification of your identity, not your latest trip to the DMV.

That make sense, thanks Delores! I was just wondering as I know its a controlled substance and wasn't sure how they regulated.

I picked up mine yesterday. It was like filling any other prescription. No ID necessary. Policy may vary by location though. They did inform me that they don't fill full prescriptions over the phone (my doc can't call it in), which resulted in having to run around town to get a new paper prescription.

This will also be my first prescription with a pharmacy in a long long time!

I agree with Delores -- I doubt having a current license matters -- any photo id, school, work, should do -- if they ask at all. It seems like it would be more important that you resemble the picture than whether it's legal for you to drive. I've used two pharmacies in the same neighborhood for my ritalin, then adderall then dexedrine prescriptions. One asked if they could photocopy a photo ID for their files, and the other didn't.

But I do understand the nervousness involved with getting your prescription filled. You want to have all your ducks in a row, as unfortunately some pharmacists can be real jerks when filling stimulant prescriptions.

I use Rite Aid pharmacy and they write down my driver's license # every time. This is for ritalin though.

I wasn't asked for ID when filling my Concerta, just had to sign for it.

Every time I get my Adderall they write my DL# down when I drop off script and ask to see my license to it pick-up. the type of medication is why.
doubt you have anything to worry about though, they have never given me a problem with mine and it has been expired for years! and it has a 1/4" strip cut off the top of it.... :o
