View Full Version : Does anyone know much about the 30 day rule?

My doctor gave me a prescription for ritalin but it's not working out for me as well as I thought... Main problem is it wears off too fast and the come down is pretty harsh, and I think the dosage is too small for me. So here's my question, she gave me a 30 day supply that probably won't last me the month (she said, 2 a day, I need 3-4 minimum for full coverage) and I want to set up an appointment next week to see if I can try adderall and see how that works for me. When they say you can only get a refill (you know what i mean, a new script) every 30 days, will that affect me if I switch drugs after only a couple weeks?

Sorry if I didn't word that very clearly, I'm pretty tired. Basically, I got a script for ritalin a week ago, will I run into any issues if I switch to adderall next week?

No, you shouldn't have any problems with doing that. I was originally prescribed Ritalin but I knew right away that it wasn't going to work for me. Then I was prescribed Adderall a week later and had no problems getting it filled.

With a medication switch, they let it go through.

Hope that helps.

If it helps at all, I was in a similar situation and was able to go from adderall xr to adderall ir within a week. The xr wasn't working, so my doc mailed me a script for the old fashioned kind. No problems from the pharmacy or my insurance getting the new prescription filled.

Ritalin was way too harsh for me so I know what you are going through.

Good luck with the med switch!
