Forest Laboratories has announced the results of a six-month study demonstrating that Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) is as effective as Paxil (paroxetine HCl) in patients with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Results of the 123-patient study found that, although both Lexapro and Paxil were associated with improvement in anxiety symptoms, three times as many Paxil-treated patients withdrew from the study due to adverse events than did Lexapro patients, and more than twice as many Paxil-treated patients experienced weight gain.

Hey- Have yuo heard of Clarocet NRI and if so do you think it could be as effective as something like Lexapro. I take addrerall and the anxiety has built up over the last 3 years since I have been taking it. I want to try and cure this but I would like to take as few prescrip meds as possible so it won't be as hard to eventually come off them. I was wondering if you might know of a solution to anxiety that comes with ADHD. I know everyone is different but do u think one of the meds such as lexapro is better than others(paxil). My doctor doesn't seem to know a whole lot about these anxiety meds so I am trying to research myself, thanks

The antidepressant LEXAPRO is a member of the family of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). LEXAPRO was developed by isolating the medicinal component of Celexa known as isomers. As a result, LEXAPRO appears to offer advantages in the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder.
Hmmm I could have told you so :D

I took Celexa and it did squat after 6 weeks. I know lexapro is a newer formulation which might have more potential i'm not sure. Although they seem very similar I have reason to believe Lexapro might have more GAD relief effects then Celexa. I also hear it works faster.

I took only one dosage of lexapro and it made me like 10 times worse. the doc said it was really really unusual. so who knows...sometimes it may work for some people and not others.

I took Lexapro for two years and found that I had too many downs and ups. I'd be up for awhile, then something would trigger depression (like an insult or disrespect from someone) and be down for many days. I finally switched to Effexor XR and it's been smooth sailing all the way.

I liked Celexa only it didn't work for long a few months (upping the dose every month) and it stopped working. Switched to Lexapro after that which didn't help but also didn't hurt which is a pretty rare occerance in my anti-depression med trial experience.
I definately hated Paxil it made me angry, violent and tired. The all time worse for me was Effexor though that drug was a nightmare. Just goes to show one persons nightmare is another persons savoir.
I'm on 20mg Lexapro and it's working well for my general anxiety, panic and depression.
I use Tofranil which is commonly known as imipramine as antidepressants and I must say it did help me to a great extent and I hope that it helps you too! Has anyone of you used it by the way??
