Hello, I recently started taking Adderall again after a job change and am having side effects that I never had when I was in high school and was on it for several years (im 30 now, I stopped taking it the first time around 20 or so).

The first one is my face will get very red, on my cheek bones and bridge of my nose. Sometimes my ears will get hot too and red, its a bit alarming as if its an allergic reaction but my skins not raised or anything like hives. I also have started to get tingly/cold hands and feet and my muscles hurt as if ive done a workout even if im just sitting at a desk. I know the tingling is circulation related and amphetamines constrict blood vessels, but never this severe. I have veins in my arms that are normally always a bit raised but when ive taken the Adderall they are actually depressed when you run your finger over the skin. I haven't had any blue/black signs of any serious circulation issue but its quite odd and annoying in my line of work.

The last and scariest one is my throat. At random times, I can go days where it doesnt happen, but I will get a lump in my throat around my thyroid/tonsil areas. It doesn't hinder breathing and goes away after a few hours.

I know that I should see a doctor is the first thing everyone would think (I did go to the doctor when the symptoms were the worst, it was an emergency clinic) and the doctor checked several things and said im ok even though my hands and feet were freezing and my throat killed. The main thing im curious about is if anyone else has had some/all of these symptoms and have found out what the root cause is. I have come up with several things on the net that it could be such as a thyroid issue, allergy, high blood pressure problem but when I get checked out they say im fine. I hate to have to not take it anymore but it seems the side effects are becoming more than the benefits in my case.

yeah you need to go see a specialist, throat doctor. The emergency room doctors don't know crap when it comes to the nitty gritty of specific problems. They can just patch you up too keep you alive but a specialist will get to the bottom of your illness.

weee96, my first thought is: are you taking instant-release or XR? Maybe IR is too much for you. Also maybe it's not the med for you, and you should try something else. Just a thought.

Also forgot to add: are you sure you are taking the same dosage you used to take?

Just another quick thought. I know that Adderall is broken down faster in acidic environments (one of the reasons that citrus fruit juices are often not recommended to be taken alongside Adderall, as they can inhibit its effectiveness). If your system is overly alkaline then Adderall can actually build up to toxic levels. You're not taking antacids, are you?

The reason I am bringing this up is that some of your symptoms sound like they may be allergy related (food or otherwise). Allergies, especially food allergies, can be exacerbated by weak stomach acid levels (which happens inevitably as we get older). If you're going to check out your throat, you might want to look into seeing if there are any digestive issues as well. Your system might look significantly different now than it did 10 years ago. Just a thought.

Yes its the same dose, IR, I think I will try XR before I give up or dexedrine. You are right though, the body is different at 30 then 20 and maybe mine just doesnt take the medication like it used to.
