Just got started with wellbutrin xl 150 and puked after drinking for the first time in a year or 2. Anyone else with this reaction?

First the admonishment: thou shall not ingest alcohol while taking prescription drugs. Okay. I found buprion to be profoundly sedating. Which is ironic since chemically it is structurally a stimulant. I didn't realize how sedating it was until I mixed alcohol with it. I have as a rule have a fairly high tolerance to alcohol. So I was puzzled when I had the usual shots and beer -- and then tried to get off the stool. Luckily that's the whole story.

I'm on day 6. Had 1/2 beer and 1 wine over the weekend with no side-effects. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY. I've resolved - no more than 1 drink while I'm this medication.

I read quite a long thread of people who all had mild to very bad reactions with Wellbutrin and alcohol. I wish I had the link. It wasn't people who were in a panicked state of mind. They (about 50) were all rationally discussing their reactions to Wellbutrin and alcohol. Some couldn't handle ONE drink. Others could handle 2, maybe 3. Some got drunk and did absolutely insane things they'd never have done while drunk w/o the Wellbutrin. Personally, I'm an idiot. I've had 10 to 15 drinks on every medication combo I've ever been on, including the current 450mg Wellbutrin XL + 400mg Lamictal + 20-30mg Dexadrine + 20mg Ambien + 3mg of Klonopin. I'm pretty sure that being drunk on Wellbutrin has made me do/say some rather (relatively) imature things that I wouldn't normally do. It's like I'm not quite as sharp as my normal drunk self (8-10 drinks). Again, this is relative. The only thing that has truely interacted with alcohol (for me) was Paxil. Paxil and alcohol made me absolutely manic and totally crazy. Even my drunk, out-of-it friends couldn't handle me. Those were a couple crazy years. I actually miss the manic phase, as I must have a naturally slow cognitive tempo. This is just me and my chemistry though, but I caution those of you on Wellbutrin to be careful with drinking. Start really slow and pay attention to how you feel.
