I had a meeting with my sons teacher (3rd grade..9yrs old). He gets nothing below a C in his subjects and for sometime now they have been pushing to put him in Special Education class.
This meeting was to decide what the plans are to be for next year. We have told them time and time again that we will NOT put him into Special Ed (inclusion class) and that his IEP needs to be changed from Language Based Disability (which we found he doesnt have) and structured to help with the ADHD. I took my report that we got from our psychologist and explained to them about behavior modification and I informed them about his abilities which are average and above average in some areas. They in return pulled out some testing that they had done which showed pretty much the same. I was very happy to see that their testing and scores were pretty much the same as our psychologists. I was relieved and figured maybe now they will stop trying to convince me that my child is disabled. Well, they went on to tell me that it really isnt that wonderful considering that my son is a year older than the rest of his classmates and should be working at higher grade levels. At this point I realized that it didnt matter what my son did...they had an answer for everything. I am still confused how they expect a child to work at a grade level that they have not yet entered and do work that they have not yet been taught. Needless to say the meeting did not go well after that. NOW, they are hinting that we hold him back a year and they asked us what kind of grades are acceptable to us for him to move on. I wished I hadn't told them because now I am afraid they will manipulate his grades to get what they want.
I went there with a ton of information on behavior modification in the classroom and alls they could do is stare at the floor. I am convinced they dont want to do anything to help my son. ANy suggestions or sympathy would be appreciated...lol...:(
