Well y'all, I read a lot about the difference in budeprion (generic xl version produced by some company, Teva I think) and the generic bupropion that is made by a subsidiary of Glaxo -- Watson (Glaxo makes the brand name, so the Watson is brand equivalent).

I couldn't believe the difference when I switched from taking 2 150 mg. budeprion xl from Teva to the Watson 300 mg. xl bupropion. I got all kinds of side effects but I withstood them because I thought -- maybe it's because it's going to work better. And it does, SO much better!

I don't care what the FDA says about bioequivalence in generics -- all generics aren't equivalent to their brand name counterparts -- and not all generics are alike, either.

I agree with you. My son has been on Wellbutrin xl for about 12wks. and the 1st. 4wks. was generic and then the dr. put him on only name brand and I could tell a huge diff. in my son the 1st. week. I would never go back to generic.

Yeah, I'm in agreement as well. As much as I want to believe the FDA, I see a huge difference between the generic and the brand name of Wellbutrin XL.

Just about two months ago, I got the generic by mistake. The lazy folks at the pharmacy didn't check my prescription carefully and they gave me the generic. I should have caught it, of course, because the price was much lower when it was time to pay for it.

When I got home, I called the pharmacy, and they said they were out of the name brand. Not wanting to go through the hassle, I decided to stay with the generic for a month (figuring I'll get the real stuff when I refill). I sort of forgot about it.

Lo and behold within a few weeks, I was feeling like crap! I was trying to trace the origins of this down period. And lo and behold, I remembered, I was on the generic.

Anyway, it costs me $30 for the name brand vs. $5 or so for the generic. I'm sticking with the name brand. I don't think we're all crazy for noticing this difference. There is a difference. The FDA just apparently doesn't have the tools or the sophistication or the political will to measure and tease out that difference at this time.

We will (the folks who insist on the name brand) be scientifically proven right in a few years. Of this, I am confident.

Yeah, I was taking Wellbutrin back when the generic IR came out and found it to be less effective. I was able to switch to name brand XL and that worked much better. I can't remember if I've taken generic XL or not but I know there was a difference in the IRs.

I find this with many of my meds. :P

I hate that my insurance forces the generics on me when they're not up to par. It's costing me a fortune to stay on name brand Lamictal because I'm terrified of the generic being less effective. :(
