So, my Dr. put me on D-Amphet Sulf 10mg Tab about two weeks ago. I found that it takes 2 hrs. to take effect and wears off in about 3. I started out on 10mg, went up to 30mg and back to 10mg. Did not notice a difference.

So, after several messages to the Dr. the nurse called back and said she would mail me a script for Dex SR 10mg Cap (which is just an extended release of the first one I tried and double the price $91 for #60).

So I'm frustrated, the pharmacist said it was the same active ingredient in both. Am I wasting money?

Has anyone experienced or know of anyone who has tried these? and if something different worked better for their concentration, focus and alertness? I read alot of these forums and now I'm just confused!

I've been reading that people are finding the 5mg barr taken 3 x a day or as needed works alot better than anything else? Does anyone agree or disagree?

Does anyone know if there are specific/different meds for ADD and ADHD?Uggg. Any input would be helpful, thanks:confused:

I'm on Dex 10 mg tabs by Ethex, but it's only been a week, so too soon to tell. Right now it's fine, and much better than Vyvanse, which is what I switched from. I started out on 20 mg a day, in 2 doses about 6 hours apart. Now I'm on 30 mg, split into a morning dose of 20 mg and an afternoon dose of 10 mg. For me, it starts to kick in about 30-40 minutes after I take it. I can tell because that's when I realize I suddenly don't want breakfast. :) One dose usually lasts about 5-6 hours for me.

That said, they're not kidding when they say everyone responds differently to meds. When I was on Vyvanse, I felt the same as you do on Dex: took forever to kick in, lasted only a few hours, and then dropped me so hard that I was still crashing the next morning. Yet a lot of people have had great success with Vyvanse.

For me, the extended release formula was a bad idea. Not sure why, my body just didn't like it. The effects seemed very weak, but all the awful side effects were still there. You might respond better to extended release, since it seems the instant release is not working for you. If the Dex SR still doesn't work, then it's likely the Dex, and time to try a new med.

I think you mentioned trying Barr-Labs brand. At least this gives you an option to try another manufacturer like Mallinckrodt.

Another thing to consider is that Doctors do develop some experience with these meds. Their thinking may be, "this worked for another patient with the same response to Dex IR, so I'll give it a shot."

I appreciate both of your opinions! Doesn't make me feel as "crazy" or weird!
