View Full Version : My Brother
leeberreth 10-18-08, 01:04 AM My brother has been taking adderall (for fun) for a couple months now, he was recently taken to the hospital because he had taken 50mg of adderall and then smoked marijuana, and had the feeling that he couldn't breathe (most likely a panic attack) i was wondering if the adderall could have had some sort of negative affect when mixing with cannabis.
Batman55 10-18-08, 05:51 AM Taking cannabis with a recreational dose of adderall could exaggerate paranoia and cause a psychotic episode. Amphetamines and cannabis can cause paranoia/anxiety on their own, putting the two together is not a bright idea for anxiety-prone individuals.
It would definitely make it more likely to have a panic attack.
I don't *think* there is an actual dangerous interaction between the two, pharmacology-wise, but I'm not an expert on these things.
leeberreth 10-18-08, 07:43 PM he's been completely sober for the past couple of days, and every once and a while he will tell me that he is having troubles breathing, similar to the experience he had before, except that its not so intense as the first one, so he thought that he may have developed a type of asthma, but the doctor did an x-ray on his lungs and they were fine, so we looked in to dehydration, were not completely sure what it is, like you we aren't doctor's either. There are a lot of possibilities of what it "could" be.
octopus 10-18-08, 11:15 PM Both amphetamines and cannabis produces tachycardia and anxiety. Amph also increases respiratory frecuency. So, this could be dyspnoea (labored breathing, shortness of breath) due to pulmonar edema plus psych effects. If he drunk alcohol then it worst everything because it's a vasodilator and this increases more the heart frecuency. Hope this help. Sorry for my english (it isn't my language).

I was an amphetamine addict before and the same thing happened to me. I'd get chest pains and trouble breathing, stop using, and the sensations would still come back for days, weeks, months.
I think panic attacks especially with stimulants/cannabis involved as the cause, it does something to the nervous system, and sometimes it doesn't go away for a while.
I stopped using amphetamines 3-4 years ago now and I still have some really odd sensations, like occasional chest pains and head pressure.

Batman, do you have any cardiovascuar issues like heart arrythmia, high Blood Pressure or anything like that?? Those chest pains & head pressure may be a result, I don't know I am not a doctor but my BP got too high taking Adderall. But even now when I take OTC stimulants like ALRI Venom, Jetfuel (google to see what I mean) I don't feel much, think I have developed a tolerance. I run 2-3 miles on treadmill several times a week, my heatbeat gets to about 185. Don't feel dizzy or naseaous or anything.

I was thinking I might have a cardiovascular issue because of powerful effects from low doses of amphetamines, but to my knowledge I do not. My father's side has a history of heart disease (predisposition to high cholesterol, etc) but I don't think anyone had a problem with weak heart or arrthymia.
I got an ECG at the doctor's office when I was having chest pains and shortness of breath, as I had been using amphetamines at the time, and nothing showed up...
My blood pressure normally tends to be on the low-normal side. I was a raging addict when I using amphetamines so I couldn't be sure what it was getting up to during usage, but due to the side effects, I am guessing it got quite high. At a certain point my health was an afterthought, the only thing that matters was the next buzz, you know the drill...

Hey you are lucky then -- I am worried that I may have high BP or some type of heart issue. I have no symptoms, no chest pains, trouble breathing. My heart rate gets very high when I am running on the treadmill at about 8.5MPH to around 185.
But tell me, how do you deal with the 'crash' from stims. Some times I feel like the female equivalent of a raving, lunatic, b**tch (pardon my language). I cannot get thru a day without caffeine and the other types of energy supplements.

Do you mean the crash from some of those caffeinated energy supplements you use? Or do you mean from prescription amphetamines?
I used to get insane crashes from amphetamines, I'd get extreme mood lability, paranoia, anger, etc. It would last for several hours sometimes. But that came on after the beneficial effects went away.
I think I know what you're talking about, though, and it truly is horrible. It felt like a psychotic/manic state that you're just locked into, and can't get out of through willpower alone.
Here's what I used to try when I got those effects, with inconsistent success at best:
- Valerian root extract, especially useful if taken as a sleep aid (I used the capsules. it does smell *really* bad though, so be prepared for that. you wouldn't want to take these with indigestion, etc)
- Kava Kava (I'm not sure I ever noticed any effect from this--it's also said to be hard on your liver, so be careful if you try it)

Batman -- you just described almost exactly what I go thru. And I am talking about caffeinated energy stimulants but they also contain synephrine which is similar to ephedra. I took this energy 'bullet' forgot the name but it came in a case of 12. Energy before the gym, mentioned Jetfuel, ALRI Venom Hyperdrive. The energy component contains 700MG of caffeine plus other stuff.
But I have to say, 2 days ago, I felt this extreme crash, irritability the morning after almost like pyschosis and close to entering the realm of Bipolar I.
Today I started Prozac again, took 60MG in morning & 60MG in evening, feel great slightly hypomanic but the 'good' kind if you know what I mean.
I do take Valerian Root before bed also something callled Nitro T3 which boosts test levels while you sleep.
Batman55 10-24-08, 03:24 AM The question is, do you genuinely need the energy from those caffeinated energy supplements, or are you more dependent on the "upper"-type effects they give you?

Hey Batman -- lets continue this discussion thru PM. Seems like we hijacked this thread from OP and original topic. But, just to answer, I think I developed such a tolerance that it doesn't work anymore & may have negative side effects. I take mainly for energy primarily in the evening when I goto the gym or to Muay Thai or Boxing Classes. I do something everyday either boxing/muay thai or weights, haven't taken a full day off in over a month. But still, I feel like I am getting weaker maybe from all the stims???
I started taking Prozac again -- 80MG refilling a prescription. I feel like a delayed type of mania such that it gets worse as times goes on.
You mentioned your experience with amphetamines -- were they prescribed for you are not??
ikgbixcal 11-18-08, 07:41 PM weed and adderall can cause a sudden panic attack 1 being there both stimulants and two both increase pulse rate
