Anyone make their own Jerky for a high protien snack?

I was thinking of getting a dehydrator to make my own.
It would definately be cheaper and I can use less salt (or salty flavorings).

Actually Jerky may be the wrong word for what I like.
Jerky is cut long and streached to make it tougher, so you can chew on it longer.
I like when it is cut accross the grain, so that it tears easily and is easier to eat. (like you would cut a roast)
Or, I guess I could even make bite size chunks and skip the tearing altogether.

Anyway, lol, is anyone doing this now, and if so, how is it working for you?

I never made my own. I always wanted to.
As a kid I had this desire to live alone in nature. In my dream I did everything, And had to preserve meat for the winter. It was a very visual day dream.

Well, no answers here, I am thinking of finding a source of already made jerky via internet, (without the dyes, preservatives and sugar) and buying in bulk for a better price.
Let me know if you do make dried beef, make a little extra & sell me some!

Yes, we make our own deer jerky every year. It honestly is not all that hard to make. You can find jerky seasoning at any Walmart (usually located near the dehydrater's and seasonong aisle's. Cut the meat any way you wish, it only takes longer to dehydrate when cut thicker but is worth the wait.

Good luck. The seasoning work's works for all kind's of meat not just deer. Specific instruction's are included.

Wow! Thanks, I guess I will check that out. It is the only meat my son will eat.
