View Full Version : What ADD/ADHD med you've tried has worked best for you (poll)?
I'm wondering what has worked the best for people here. I have heard good things about Dexedrine, Vyvanse and Concerta, but no clear winners, so I made this poll to see if I can get a better reading on what works the best for the most people. Hopefully this will aid other people also when deciding what med to get.
Contrapunctus 10-22-08, 12:53 PM I am sure you will see that most people here prefer Adderall/Dexedrine...
My personal list in decreasing order: Desoxyn---> Pemoline---> Focalin ---> D-amphetamine ---> Adderall
My list of preference (Most to least):
1. Desoxyn
2. Dexedrine/Focalin/Vyvanse
3. Adderall/Ritalin
4. Pemoline
5. Wellbutrin
6. Strattera/Tricyclics/Guanfacine
7. Provigil
DesertDave 10-22-08, 03:38 PM I'm reluctant to actually vote. I haven't found "the one" yet.
So far I've tried Wellbutrin, Strattera, Ritalin, and now Adderall. The only one that I've seen any results from was Strattera and it was minor. The side-effects weren't worth it.
I'd like to know what my p-doc's drug list looks like. No one has mentioned it, but I'm sure each one has a list of what sequence they want to try things in. I don't know enough to give him suggestions. But reading postings of those with knowledge/experience on here is very useful. Wish I understood it all better.
meriellyn 10-22-08, 03:42 PM I've tried Wellbutrin, Concerta, Adderall IR, and finally settled on Dexedrine IR
I'd order the ones I've tried:
1. Dexedrine (by far)
2. Adderall (effective but too many side effects)
3. Wellbutrin (would consider again as a second medication, but not in place of stimulants)
4. Concerta (would never touch the stuff again)
Pink Sunset 10-24-08, 12:38 AM I also am not convinced that I have found the one, however I know what has not worked. I have tried, in this order, Strattera, Ritalin, adderall, and now Vyvanse. This is also the order of worst to best. Stratterra knocked me out, did nothing for attention. Ritalin turned me into a moody witch with a short temper. I normally never have a 'temper'. I was so crabby I wanted to crawl out of my own skin. Adderall helped with the attention and focus, but by the time I got to a dose where I could be productive, I was antisocial. I did not want to talk to anyone, I didn't want to participate in conversations when people talked to me, I was often hyperfocued, lost my ability to multi-task and was sensitive to noise. I am now on vyvanse. I had minimal effect for the first few days, but I had such a terrible headache I don't think a truckload of stimulants could have helped me focus. But now i feel pretty good. i am not as organized as I was while taking adderal, but i also have not lost my personality. A fair trade. I am more focued and I do have more motivation. i could not claim that my motivation was affected by any of the prior meds. My son takes Vyvanse and after months of telling my psych md this, i am finally trying it. I've only been on it for 2 1/2 weeks. I have also thought about trying dexadrine, many good things said about this med, but I am leary to switch if I am feeling stable. It has been months since I have felt 'even'. It is nice. Good luck with your trial and error.
Brianne 10-24-08, 12:20 PM I have only tired adderall, straterra, and concerta. Conserta didn't work well, made me feel sick and I had too many unwanted side effects. Straterra just made me sleep all the time. So after being on it about 8 weeks I went back to my dr and asked how was straterra supposed to help me focus if all I do is sleep lol!
The only trouble I have with adderall is that I tend to hyper-focus more and my heart rate goes a little too high when doing aerobic activites. So I am trying to figure out what time of day would be best for me to exercise. I think I might have to exercise before I take my meds. That's not going to be easy! As for the hyper-focusing....... I just set an alarm on my watch to let me know its time to move on to something else. I had other weird side effect when I first started it. It takes 6-8 weeks for your body to adjust to new meds. After 8 weeks a lot of unwanted side effects went away for me. I am glad I stuck with it. I have been on and off of it for 9 years now. I was only off of it because of being pregnant. The dose has changed over the years but it still is the best med for me.
AnalogDog 10-27-08, 12:01 AM Focalin XR is the drug of choice for me. Strattera is the loser of choice for me, I was on it for several years, until I was tested again and found to still have symptoms that it could not help. Focalin takes care of all of them.

Good luck with your trial and error. Your entry caught my attention! I am not on Vyanse (spelling) been on it for two days now I have noticed some minor positive changes but also have stomach pain, restlessness and nervousness and feeling slightly "detached" I am not sure if that is the word I am looking for...I hate living with my ADD but am realizing now it is a illness that I may be able to conquer any support would be appreciated..thanks~Chrissy
