I have a cold.
I am a little more than a week into my budeprion medication (2x 150mg).
I assume I'm not the first to be taking budeprion and come down with a cold.
Is there anything that I need to keep in mind when considering cold medication.
Well yer probably over your cold by now and I am taking Bupropion SR 150 mg x2 in the mornings, I also have never taken a cold medicine with it other than cough drops. I did however use a puff off of my albuterol inhaler this morning with no ill effects. In general if the med is hyping you up then anything with pseudoephidrine or phenylephrine in it is going to add to that effect. However if the medication is not hyping you up and making you feel anxious then it might not affect you much. I have no idea what the use of a decongestant would do with the seizure threshold though. I quick call to your friendly neighborhood Spid... er... pharmasist should clear things up though. ;)

Oh yeah, antihistamines probably wont affect you badly, however some of them might make y ou drowsy, not sure about cough medicines. Dextromethphorphan can do some weird stuff to serotonin levels sometimes especially if you take a lot of it.

350-700 mg. of dextromethorphan? Wow, what did it do? Did you feel weird or anything? DId it help your cough? Um howmany teaspoons full would that be anyway. Considering that most otc cold medicines have from 10-30 mg of dxm in them per dose you were 10-20 times the reccomended max dose. Was this a one time thing or did you repeat it every 4-6 hours for a cough? Sorry for all the questions it is just sometimes I get a bad cough that doesn't respond well to the regular dose and if a bit more will help with no ill effects I might be inclined to try it but not quite that high I don't think.

He was treating future coughs.
Preemptive medicine.
The best person to answer these sort of questions is the pharmacist - it's their job.
Yeah, I am not adventurous enough to try 300-700 mgs, however I might try 40 sometime if I thought it would help more with no ill effects. I know that sometimes the dosage on certain drug are cut pretty far back in their otc versions vs. what they would have been at original prescription strength. I don't know if this is the case for dextromethorphan or not; as long as I can remember it has been over the counter.

But now you'll never get another cough... :p
Thanks for all the replies. All done with the cold. :)
I was a little worried about taking sudafed, so I went with a guaifenisen/dextromethorphan mix, pill form. It worked to keep the sinuses mostly clean.
Couldn't kick the dry cough, sore throat and had to take some syrup - guaifenisen/dextromethorphan/phenylephrine. It did the trick.
No serious or obvious side effects of mixing these medications with my budeprion 150mg/2.
