I have begun taking Adderall on Tuesday - my therapist said since I never had ADD symptoms in childhood - it is not likely I can get the diagnosis as an adult....However, I am being treated for it....I recently began law school & have been struggling all semester. Ever since the Adderall I have been functioning at higher level...

However, I feel EXTREMELY depressed & feel as if I can't function wihout the Adderall now....Coming down from it is horrible....any advice??

Thanks :)

wish I had some

you mean coming down off of it each day as it wears off?

are you taking the XR? some people even break up the XR into smaller doasges taking throughout the day

or you may try strattera... it's not for everyone, but its not a stim so there's no roller coaster ride

Are you on the XR, or the regular?

I'm on the generic tablets, so I have a good amount of control over dosing times. I generally try to time my last dose so that it wears off right about the time I'm going to sleep - that way I don't really deal with a crash.

I am on 20mg of XR - I spoke to my APRN yesterday & told her the crash is really affecting my functioning in my afternoon classes...she suggested I take another 20mg dose around noon.......I'm scared this will make my evening crash even worse!!

I don't want to be completely dependent on meds....

And to Johnny S. - I tried taking half of my pill - it has absoluetly zero affect on me

law school is tough for everyone but you have to realize you have to take at least a couple of days off during the week so you don't build up a tolerance

gradually you will see in the day or 2 you take off that you can still survive law school without the meds.

but it doesn't hurt to stay up long hours and stuff the only problem is avoiding hyperfocusing because that can be just as bad as not focusing at all.

I'm also curious how you are being treated for ADHD when you say that you don't have it. Also, which symptoms are we talking here? Some folks may have been able to cope with their ADHD as a child, but not so in adults. But we've all struggled with some of the symptoms throughout our lives.

If you do have ADHD, than there's nothing wrong with taking medication as a student. You're going to need it.

If on the other hand you don't have ADHD, than you need to work with a doctor to wean you off the drug. I mean, that's the only thing I can think of. I honestly don't know what the long term effects are for someone without ADHD, so I think you need to make it a priority to get an answer one way or the other.
