Has anyone found that taking Wellbutrin XL 150mg twice a day works better and with fewer side effects than taking 300mg once a day?

I start this medicine tomorrow.. its supposed to be 150mg in the AM then after a week another 150mg pill in the PM this is wellbutrin SR.. so I am currious as to the answer of your question

SR is different than XL. Normally you take SR twice daily and XL once daily.

I don't think there is much of a difference between taking 2 at once or 1 twice a day. This type of medicine builds up in your body vs. something like Adderall which has a short halflife so it's gone in a few days. If you've been taking Wellbutrin for a few weeks, it could take another few weeks to get rid of all of it. So eventually your body just has a constant supply of it anyway.

Yes, theoretically over time the XL should reach a steady state and it should not matter whether you take 300 all at once or 150 2x/day.

BUT -- my daughter definitely feels the peak each day and it's not pleasant (slightly overmedicated). Also, when she wakes in the AM she feels "very add" (undermedicated).

This is why she is considering with her doctor taking the 150 XL 2x/day -- to flatten the peak a bit and extend it's duration.

Hence our curiosity -- has anyone tried this and found it successful?

Yeah, I've heard that some people can get a "boost" from Wellbutrin. I've never felt it so I didn't even remember to mention it.

But if she's getting a boost during the day, then giving it to her later in the day might give her insomnia. That was definitely the case for me with other ADHD meds. I couldn't sleep for 3 days while on Adderall so I just had to stop.

Then again, if it's just for one day you could try it on a weekend to see if she does get insomnia from it. If she doesn't, then you might as well give her the medicine.

One thing to note, though, is that half her dose might not be enough to make her stop feeling "very add" as you put it. She might still feel like it's not enough. And then at night she's asleep so all that medication is "wasted" and pretty much gone by the time she wakes up anyway. But like I said, just try it for a few days and see. It can't possibly hurt her besides some insomnia.

I'm taking 75 mg wellbutrin SR twice a day and I found it to work better than 150 mg wellbutrin XL once a day. It definitely lengthens the peak.
