I have been taking Adderall XR 30mg for 2 years now. It costs over a hundred dollars for me to fill it each month. I had my husband go pick up my script today, and he came home with some d-amphetimine salt combo pills that cost less than 5 dollars. Turns out my doc forgot to write XR on the script. At first I was upset because I know the hassle of getting another script, but the price sounds so good, I'm wondering if I can just split the pill in half and get the same effect. Can anyone tell me the difference in these two drugs and if it would be worth the savings?

it's made by corepharmacy and its pink

I have the same pills you have. But they are the 20mg ones, although they are pink as well.

You can try taking 10mg in the morning, with 5mg every couple hours for the rest of the day. Technically what happens with XR's is half the dose is released at once, though not in reality, then about 4 hours later the other half of the dose is able to be metabolized. Instant release is a whole lot easier to control your dose. You can recognize when you've taken enough for the day, and when you don't want to take anymore (avoid any side-effects such as insomnia, headaches, etc).

Try it out, tell your doctor your going to, and see how he reacts to it. If its going to save you money, and allow for easier control of your dose, you never know, you might just find your new monthly pickup.

Try it and see. I take Corepharma as well (i.e, "stinky pinkies", "poorpharma") and I don't like them. I've never tried anything else, but many other people have reported problems. Some, however, prefer Corepharma to the other brands (mostly IR).

Same exact thing happened to me last month. 30mg IR instead of XR. I called the Dr the following day to get a new perscription for XR. In the mean time I did try plitting them in half: half in morning and half at lunch.

No, not the same as XR. The fact that I forgot to pick up my new perscription for a week was the first sign that it wasn't the same. The IR felt more like an illegal drug than the XR. Not smooth at all, strong onset, lots of sweating and energy but without the same focus power of XR. Reminded me of coke minus the euphoria. I now only use half of an IR on the weekends when I'm working around or outside the house and don't need to focus as much, but not during the work week.

adderall ir is gives you a quick rush, which doesn't help add , it's the point after the rush where the med tapers off but is still at a high curve where there is no euphoria and no rush where I can focus and concentrate... I hate that initial feeling from the ir meds, but they do work. XR meds used in combination with ir meds usually make the medications smoother and better for focus

Well, at a high enough dosage, the 'buzz' does help me sit still for hours. But that screws up my circulation.

Apparently, even recreational users frequently don't like the Stinky Pinkies. If you don't like them, you could consider trying another generic brand before giving up on IR altogether. I'm not sure what I'll do.

true at that dose that helps you sit around for long hours thats not what I'd consider symptom control. If your hyper like I am even when you can concentrate you will still get the wiggles , ritalin is better for relaxing me personally but at the therapeutic dosage over long periods of time that feeling sometimes can make you feel a bit mentally sluggish... So your treating the hyperactivity but you can't focus as well depending on the medication curve, that's why I feel adderall helps more, it's gives you the ability to focus , but nobody said it would be interesting. Thats when you have to improvise with brief breaks , walks and other things while the med is working.
