View Full Version : Is adderal causing sudden instances of my flushed complexion?

I have been on the generic instant release form of Adderall since last January for ADHD. My current dosage is 80mgs a day, spaced out throughout the day.

I am having a frustrating symptom that I would really like to find out about... I have an appointment with my psychiatrist next week, but I would really to hear if anyone has advice/similar experiences to share.

I have noticed that within the past two months I become flushed easily, and usually with no identifiable cause. My chest and neck are the main areas that this manifests, and they will literally turn bright red. My face will also get very flushed - my natural complexion is very light skinned, some freckles, and slighty rosy cheeks, but NOTHING like these flushes.

When I am flushed my skin can either feel hot, as in, it literally radiates heat...but some times I think I am flushed because I have that tingling, hot feeling but when I look in a mirror I am surprised to find I look normal... (meaning, no redness...) I can remain flushed for hours, and I hate it...

What is the worst, though, is if I get embarrassed about something, what were once just normal blushes are now insanely intense flushes, where my entire face, neck, and chest turn BRIGHT red, and I literally feel as though my body temperature is a million degrees. This obviously makes me even more embarrassed, and, well, that just makes everything worse.

Those flushes will eventually go away, and the initial intensity will only fade once I am feel calmer. The flushes can leave blotchy spots for hours and hours afterward.

Lastly, though less often, my hands will get flushed too, and feel tingly and hot to the touch... this is less frequent and usually goes away much more quickly.

I am 28, in good health though not overly active, not overweight...

Has anyone experience something similar, or has some insight into this? These only began in the past few months - dosage has been the same...

Thank you in advance.

I think it is a stimulant thing in general. Coffee can do that to me as well. Maybe you should lower the dosage

Have you changed ANYTHING in the last couple of months? Added any supplements, anything like that?

I've gone through periods for years where I've had an overly-flushed face, that reduces to blotchiness, but this predates my Adderall use. I have noticed that Vicodin will sometimes induce the kind of intense flushing you're talking about, right down to the hands.

If you haven't changed anything, I agree with PhishHead - try reducing your dose. It sounds like your body might be becoming overly sensitized to the Adderall.

Are you taking Niacin/B3? This happened to me today! I took a Niacin/B3 (I think 100 mg) with my regular 20 mg Adderall IR. After about 10 minutes it was like I had a horrible sunburn. I thought I was having an allergic reaction so I went to the clinic at work. When I mentioned the Niacin/B3, it explained everything. Look it up on Wikipedia. These are side effects but I don't think they're supposed to manifest at such a low dose. I think it's the combination with Adderall that makes it really come out. They watched me for awhile and let me go.

The article did say that if you take it for a few weeks that should stop, and also if you take Aspirin or Ibuprofin 30 mins before it should help it not be so bad.

The core generic does this to me, randomly makes my face red and on the bridge of my nose. I get real hot ears at times from it too, I think its something in the inactive dyes used and not the amphetamine.
