View Full Version : l-tyrosine, magnesium??
ms ladybug 11-13-08, 07:16 PM Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else. I'm going to start taking Adderall XR 20mg/day. I was wondering if I can continue taking l-tyrosine while on this.
Also, what is supposed to be the effects of taking magnesium?
Thanks.
mightyADDmike 11-13-08, 11:18 PM Magnesium works great take it at night....just dont take it with your adderall from what i hear....
ikgbixcal 11-18-08, 08:16 AM l tyrosine isnt just like magnesium. l tyrosine is part of the amnio acid group. when it enters the body it is converted to dopamine
shakepurmake 11-18-08, 11:44 PM Take DLPA and vitamin b6 when u take ur tyrosine. Helps convert the tyrosine into dopamine from what im reading. I take 1000mg when i wake up since its recommended to take on an empty stomach. Make sure u wait at least an hour before eating though.
KatInOuterSpace 11-19-08, 01:27 AM So it's okay to take 1000 mg of L-Tyrosine before your daily Adderall dose? How much time should elapse between the two?
shakepurmake 11-19-08, 04:30 PM Im on dexedrine IR tablets(generic barr SUCKS) but when I was taking adderall xr 25mg, basically here would be my schedule:
5:00am- Wake up to take 1000mg of tyrosine with vitamin b6, and 500mg of DLPA( DL-Phenylalanine)...then i doze back off to sleep.
6:00am-Wake up, with the tyrosine helping me wake up. Eat some eggs to get some protein in. Drink water.
7:00am- Take my adderall xr with 3 cups of water.
And then I let the focus begin. Its pretty noticeable to be honest, the tyrosine. Im also reading on how its good for short term depression as well.
Just be careful taking tyrosine and adderall together as both of them speed ur heart rate up. If i were u though, id try taking 500mg or less to see how u first react to it.
ms ladybug 11-19-08, 05:00 PM I am currently taking l-tyrosine (unsure of the mg, but I think it's 500) with DLPA in the morning. I just didn't know if I can continue to take it when I start on Adderall.
Magnesium at night then? Is magnesium supposed to help with Adderall tolerance??
Right now, I'm not even for sure going to get Adderall, but MD is wavering. We shall see tomorrow.
shakepurmake 11-19-08, 07:42 PM Yeah magnesium is supposed to help. Just take it before bedtime or whenever the drug wears off. Magnesium basically helps with stress and everyday things we deal with ie work, responsibilities, thinking all depletes us of magnesium which in turn increases stress. I found that taking magnesium glycinate like 2 hours after taking my adderall helped me wind down with being so stressd. Helps me calm down before i go to bed as well.
I dont know if u shud take magnesium while the adderall is working though because amphetamines basically raise ur magnesium levels after like 6 weeks of taking it and i don't know the consequence of having too much magnesium in ur system.
Read this thread. Don't make the same mistakes I did.

How much magnesium glycinate do you take? I found 100 mg pills that would choke a horse. I can't get my 11 yo ADHD son to take any of it but his doc recommended it. I tried breaking it up (gets rough swallowing) and its only 100 mg!
shakepurmake 11-24-08, 11:35 PM I take 200mg of Magnesium glycinate right before bed and i know what tablets ur talking about..its like some company named KAL that manufactures these tablets. They are ******* huge lol. Try breaking them up into thirds i suppose? Though I do prefer Magnesium taurate...so much more noticeable with the calming effects being of it being the most easy to absorb into ur body with a bioavailabilty of like 80% which is good compared to other magnesium types. And they are smaller too...the ones under the brand name of Vitamin Shop.

FWIW, I take 120mg magnesium glycinate capsules manufactured by Pure Encapsulations (http://www.purecaps.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=MG3). They are 5/16" in diameter and 15/16" long, so I wouldn't consider them abnormally large... just large. The capsules are very easy to open if you need to mix the contents in with some apple sauce or something. Purecaps is also a very high quality supplement manufacturer. You can buy them from a number of online resellers or through a doctor/specialist of some sort. I buy them through NaturalNutritionals.com because they offer free shipping and you can use coupon code "PURE" for 25% off. Best prices I've found so far.
