IT IS ABOUT......
By healthwiz

It is about the light that must be found, deep within,
under the darkness of heavy nights,
under the leaves of fallen trees,
under the layers of broken hearts.

It is about the thoughts our rationality tells us to run from,
about those feelings
that our fears
tell us to suppress
and ignore,

about instinctually running away
from a thing we take for granted
and rarely take notice,
which we in time
forget about
and eventually
miss more than anything
though we know not
what it is.

It is about all that we pretend to be,
all that we conjure
about ourselves,
that we profess
about our dignity and self-esteem,
about scientific support
for our modern reality.

It is about disappearing
as if a great magicians cape
made us vanish,
and all that remained
was the falsity of our socially indoctrinated self-image.

It is about a place few find,
a beautiful gem within reality
that few think is real,
where those that seek it and find it,
discover an eternal light of radiant magnitude
burning brightly
despite all that has occurred,

a light that explains how we survived
through this arduous journey
in this relatively human
and frail vessel,

a place that remains forever in each of us,
whether ignored
or recognized
or credited
or beaten.

It is about a mystical, magical and sacred explanation,
which so few humans
have the time to find or the courage to hear,
though the connection is always there.

The secret location is merely an inward look in distance,
not far from anywhere nor anyone at any time,
yet we glance past it most of our lives,
seek ministers to help us find it,
and often believe ourselves too important or busy
to give it a second thought or the time of day.

When it leaves us a sacred clue,
we bury it, and mock ourselves,
and turn down its musical symphony
as though it were merely a local punk rock star
not worthy of our refined attention.

Yet some of us continue the search everywhere,
and eventually reach despair,
over the missing notes in our lives,
the out of sync feeling.

For some who are especially honest with themselves,
where it all begins,
those that are truly ready
the secret gate appears
and opens magically,
allowing us in,

to take the next step
in our journey,
to be braved
by the heart of an Olympian,
to face the darkest darkness,
to look directly into the most hideous pain,
to persevere the shear grief
of daily existence,

and a few, unfettered and brave,
still continue on this journey
straight unnervingly
to the very pit
at the bottom,

unceasingly, without regard
for what harm may come to them,
trusting like a child in something greater
that they do not know,
yet they believe in
believing in the worth
of that sacred treasure
which may be at the other side,
borrowing giant sums of faith
to continue without faltering,

and those that make this heroic journey
find what no one else seems to believe or know,
that no expert tells them about,
that no priest locates for them,

they find their long lost selves,
their soul,
which they are amazed is still intact,
still there,
waiting loyally,
awaiting our perfect call
awaiting our perfect acceptance,

and we wonder
after all these years,
how our souls remained there,
surviving, strong, resilient, powerful,

we are amazed and liberated
when we see ourselves again,

reunited,

and we know
deep in our heart
it was worth
the long
hard scary
journey,

for we are elevated
from digging
in the bowels

of the earth

to flying
in the clouds

of the universe

we......
are......
finally.....
free

Hi Healthwiz,

Thank you for sharing this with us! It reminds me that life is an uphill journey, with plateaus hard reached. But as my pastor said the other night, the climb is worth the beauty when we reach the top. We may not think so, or enjoy the pain, but in the final outcome we reach the mountaintop and look out at all we have overcome. I hope you post more here. Thanks again!

Thank you Mary. I like the analogy. Its about the courage we all use daily in our lives. It takes courage to travel through the darkest darkness in order to reach the lightest light, faith to know the light is there and guts to walk through blindly.

But we do it every day unless we choose to stay home and vegetate, and even then, our minds are looking for the path.

This is for me, the most personal and best poetry I have written. I wrote it a year and a half ago almost, and it still strikes a spot in me when I read it. I know where I was in my mind and soul and I feel the words ring true no matter where I will be in my life.

Hey Healthwiz,

Excellent poem. I have some like that, that mean a lot everytime I read them as well.

It is a poem of one persevering, of stiving to press on, courageous

Correct indeed Mr Jimmmaaaa James

Yes. Persevering is interesting. I think pressing on, tenacity, not giving up is where we learn and grow the most. I grow the most in the valleys of life. When you "hang in there" you are being stretched and molded and shaped.
