Hi all. I'm a new user of 20mg Methylphenidate SR (Sandoz) after a mild traumatic brain injury about a year ago. Post Concussion Syndrome now, and my neurospychiatrist thought we should give medication a shot.

The drug seems to have helped at least slightly in most of the concentration related areas I'm dealing with, and the only side effects I'm noticing are the occasional headache, a "fullness" in the front part of my head, and pretty bad insomnia. Not as bad as when the doctor gave me a "short-acting" dose of adderall a few weeks ago and my heart was racing all night, but I'm not sure I've been able to nod off for more than an hour.

Unfortunately, the insomnia could be a dealbreaker for me. I take it first thing in the morning. Does the sleeplessness taper off? If so, how long should I stick with this before changing my medication (either to the short acting stuff, or something else)?

Is it safe to split these pills (maybe 10mg would be a better fit for me)?

Thanks. Getting a lot out of reading previous posts.

Alex.

Welcome! I started out using the short acting Ritalin and then tried the long acting. The long acting made it hard for me to sleep also. I would definately talk to your doctor about it. Going without sleep is not a good thing! Good luck and let us know how things go.

Thanks. After another bad night, I've decided to switch to short acting.

FWIW the pharmacist said that I can't (shouldn't?) split the 20mg generic Ritalin.
