I have been trying for months now to get a psychiatrist that will help me with my ADD. It is so frustrating!!! I called a number of them and they are either not returning my calls, not accepting new patients, or not treating my condition (i don't even believe they are not treating ADD, maybe they think that I am a drug addict or something that's why they are brushing me off). I was diagnosed with ADD three months ago before we moved here in the bayarea and was prescribed Adderal,

I can't find a doctor who can help me with adjusting my meds. Have you had this problem before? I don't even like taking those stimulants because it makes me jittery and my heart palpitates. But I need them because it helps with my focus and self esteem.

Just need to vent.. :(

I thought that too when the first 2 psych's I called said they don't treat ADHD but I found out some choose not to because of potential legal problems, they think adults can lie better and fake it easier that's why the one's that do ask for stuff like old report cards or want to talk to someone who knew you as a kid.

Well, at least that's been my experience lol

How far are you willing to travel? I have to drive over 2 hours to a big city to see my doc so (i'm guessing Foster City is in california not canada) if a city like L.A isnt TOO far away i think it's worth the drive cause docs in big cities have more experience and won't think your just looking for drugs

waterlily,

That must be so frustrating. I think we here in the UK don’t know how lucky we are. I have doctors and psyche nurses coming out of the woodwork. My doctor calls me when my script is due to be filled. He checks how I am and then okays the script which I then collect at the chemist -Pharmacy to you people across the pond. I think Punch’s suggestion is your best bet. Good luck. I hope you get someone to listen soon.

Good luck. I've been going through something similar trying to find a doctor who will treat my migraine headaches. Either they don't treat "chronic pain conditions" or I can't afford the doc or the meds because I don't have health insurance. When is this country going to admit we need universal health care like other countries have?

hello waterlily, why not call your former doc and tell him your problem, he might be able to recommend someone or at the very least mail you scripts untill you get a local doc
take care and keep us posted

you know some very good docs are in the So Cal area and if you take southwest air you can get there for around 150-160 dollars with 21 day notice and I think you should get there in a little over an hour. I bet with a little research you could work out the logistics from lax to the docs office.

Try asking local pharmacists if they can give you the names of doctors who treat a lot of ADD. Pharmacists know more about prescribing practices of area doctors than anyone. Some will probably dismiss you as a "seeker," but if you are genuine, polite & sincere some will probably help you.

Good luck,
